Here I am at home, a day after coming back from the hospital finding out that I DON'T have swine flu (phew), and I'm bored. What do I do? Well i download a 14-day trial of everquest II. Anyone play/played this game? Maybe I can get some responses in before I finish the download :)

I'm a WoW player (the 20 hours a week serious raid guild kind). I downloaded EQII, bored and it was free. What could it hurt. VERY impressed with the game. I'm honestly surprised more people don't play with it. Only thing I can recommend, if you like to feel like there are actually people around you, create your character on one of the RP servers, Antiona Baile or Lucan D'lere (Probably spelt both wrong, don't feel like checking). They have kind of evolved into nonRP servers, but they are the only ones I found where you'd actually see other people in the game. It took me about 5 classes before I found one I liked that I got past level 20.

Use to play it when it came out. God side tracked and couldn't keep my attention then with other things going on and never went back. I did enjoy it though it was fun, but was hard to find a nice group to play with and to quests back then :(
Still play on the Befallen server in a great level 80 familyguild that can raid end game. The game is always getting better and the people that still play now REALLY know what they are doing. There is almost no griefers or noobs running around anymore.
There was a huge game update yesterday that added more content, updated shaders and all kinds of other good stuff! :D
PM me and we'll get you some good folks to play with.

I just let my account expire, actually. I played a Fury to 45~ and a Shadowknight to 51 before getting pretty bored with it. There's a bit of a problem finding groups for certain zones. I played on one of the largest servers (Antonia Bayle) and sometimes in the 40-50 range, I'd get one person for a group at night and have to call it off. It's not as bad as some games, though, and you CAN quest grind for exp, but the quests are almost exclusively kill quests / courier quests / telephone quests in a lot of the older content. It was very disappointing that nothing ever felt epic, but it looked a lot more fun after 60ish.
That being said, if you can get a group of people to consistantly do the amazingly fun dungeons and/or instances that are prevalent at each level tier, you're going to have a great time. Grouping is almost always better than playing solo. It isn't only a means of getting gear / doing dungeon quests like some games. You can get FAR more achievement exp and adventure exp by completely clearing every named in a dungeon and doing all the quests AND getting high quality gear with some buds. :)
So, that said, it's horridly lackluster as a solo game, in my opinion, but it's group play is very, very good from the first instance on. Unfortunately, groups are getting sparse and more people just solo to 80, so try to find a guild with many leveling members and you'll have a great time! Unless you like to solo, then...YMMV.
EDIT: Also, they finally recently gave it a dual-core makeover, so performance is FAR better than it used to be. Your rig will pretty much decimate it at max settings and believe me, it's gorgeous.

It's bad, too much grind, poor end game.
Knew a guild that went from WoW to EQII a while ago, they came back after a month.

I told you man, in the ramble of my post... Most servers you won't see anyone on. If you want to continue, play on either Antonia Bayle, or Lucan D'Lere. Those are the #1 (AB) and #2 (LD) populated servers. Even they're not WoW populated, but you'll at least see plenty of people around.
There are plenty of family type guilds on all servers. Just find one of the larger ones and grouping will not be a problem. Most are always recruiting any class and level and running up alts.
In EQ2 you won't find dozens of 12 yr olds spamming chat and running all around the server if you're expecting wow type play. The player base is typically over 25 yrs old and a much more stable gaming group.

Don't get me wrong, I love that. But I was expecting to see a few more people, I mean, the city is huge and there's nobody there lol. Either way, I just needed to quench my MMO thirst for a couple of days, that trial got the job done. Hopefully I can wait until FFXIV

I was an avid Everquest player (never tried EQ2) and I absolutely loved it! Don't have much time for it these days but if I did I would probably play EQ2over WoW since I have experience with it. I had a level 52 Paladin with some epic gear that is probably long gone by now too bad.

I still play classic EQ ... Lvl 85 Cleric, 65 Rogue, 67 Shadowknight, 66 Enchanter are my big ones... LOL... I also have a few other accounts with some 80+ toons. I play on the Prexus server... That's one of the older servers and there is still a healthy population still.

Well since the guild hall introductions, the cities are very quiet places. Jump into one of the bigger lvl 80 guilds and you'll have access to everything and a good group base to pick from.

EQ1 is no longer anything like classic EQ. Hell, it barely resembles the game I started playing when I started in Shadows of Luclin (the 3rd expansion pack).
It's slowly dying like most old MMOs. The question is how long until SOE pulls the plug? Probably another 5-10 years at least since they are STILL making new expansion packs.

I think not positive tho that Venoker is a pvp server. If it is they tend to have a lower pop. Like someone else said earlier when they introduced guild halls not many people use the city's as you can get everything from your hall if its high enough lvl. I currently play on Butcherblock and am getting ready to cancel because its to hard to get a group. If you want to play on a pvp server people say that nagafen is the higher pop one. Non pvp everyone seems to say Antonia Bayle. If i was to start a new toon on a pve server it would prolly be a dirge. Bards to me are just fun to play and at 80 very easy to get groups.
