I recently purchased a fan adapter for my Vantec CCK6035D and a Sunon 80mm Super H.O. fan (50.6 CFM and 40.6 dBA). At first, I noticed my temperatures actually went up. However, the noise was much more bareable compared to the stock Vantec Delta clone. I was not satisfied with only the noise decrease. I was pushing more air, so I should be able to cool the HS better.

Well, as you can already guess...there was a fair amount of back pressure...to the point where you could feel the air coming back out of the fan. Upon closer inspection of the adapter and heatsink, it appeared that there was some material that could be removed from both the smallest diameter of the adapter as well as the opening for the heatsink housing (where the stock Vantec fan mounted). So I opened up both the adapter and the heatsink housing to match the smallest diameter of the adapter.

By opening up both of those diameters, I was able to significantly increase the air flow and reduce my temperatures by about 2 C (from before the adapter / 80mm retrofit). I cannot feel the air coming back out of the fan anymore, and the fan noise also decreased slightly because it is not working against itself anymore.

Just wanted to share my findings.

Sorry for being so long-winded.
