I am getting rid of my PS3 60GB.

Someone wants to trade me an 8GB Ipod touch + 2 bricks PSPs.

What is the common reason for a PSP being bricked ? Is it possible to unbrick them ?

Bricking tends to happen when you epically fail at installing the 3rd party firmware needed to use ripped games and PS One ROMS.

As for 'unbricking'- if you do ALOT of reading then you could try it. I'm not sure how sucessful you'll be.

The question should be whether you'd be happy to exchange you PS3 for an ipod touch?
Y'know, assume that the PSPs are dead and are just an extra. Cos as far as i know, they call it 'bricked' for a reason. You might as well whack some concrete on them and add them to your garden wall :)

You can unbrick it with a pandora's battery I think

Actually, there's already a thread here on the forums explaining how to make a pandora's battery for the PSP ( which then allows you to load custom firmware ), At least it works on the 2000 models of the PSP-slim. the new 3000 models are different, thus the old way of cracking it no longer works.

there's the thread. the OP there has pictures of what needs cut on the battery.

And yes, pandora's batteries DO un-brick PSP's. I have used my pandora's battery ( I have 2 batteries, one is a pandora's battery, the other is a regular battery I use in my PSP ) MANY MANY times to load custom firmware onto a PSP. And a couple of those PSP's ended up bricking because the person either tried to update to sony's official firmware, Or went into the recovery menu and screwed with settings. I unbricked every single one that came back to me.

Though, you may want to do a google search on "unbricking a PSP" or something similar, because I never unbricked a PSP without putting custom firmware on it. So I'm not sure how to go back to the official sony firmware.

It depends on what caused the bricking.

For example, if it's bricked because of a bad firmware update then it can be remedied. However, if it's bricked because the guy dropped it in water then no, you can't unbrick it.

You need to ask what was the cause of the bricking in the first place. You can't just assume it's a bad firmware update.

As far as pandora battery goes, don't try to make one yourself. You are probably better off buying the battery online, or via ebay.

I have several pandora batteries, all made by software, none are hard modded.

Are the bricked psp's the original or slim? (or 3000's?)

if phat or slim I can do it, a 3000 though I haven't worked with. The other issue is you also need a "Magic memory stick" which is a stick flashed with a special ipl that will allow it to be booted from and to write to the nand of the PSP. It needs to be at least 1GB (because it has to be a Pro Duo to work properly) But it isn't difficult to set up, you just need a hacked PSP to make a set in the first place.

I used to do it at work for people all the time (GameStop lol)

You just pop the memory stick in, then pop the battery in, the system powers on by itself, you press a couple buttons to get it going and you're set. And if by some chance you mess it up? Just start over :D

If you're not a fan, or not comfortable with running a cracked firmware, you can also restore to an official version. I think mine restore to 3.9 and 3.90m33.

didnt you just get that PS3? or is this a previously owned version that is replaced by the no BD drive system?

well, if we are talking about trading ps3...etc, maybe this tread should be move to the classified section.

He's not asking to trade anything here.. someone already offered him this.

As for the trade, I wouldn't do it unless it was a very reputable person or good friend I know I can trust.

+1

another way, you can buy a Pandora's battery, make a Pandora memory stick and bamb! there you go.

there's lots of guides online.

about unbricking them though, it's pretty hard, maybe impossible to resurrect a PSP from a failed attempt at flashing with CFW.
why dyou need 2 anyway? :)

Umm it isn't difficult at all to resurrect a PSP from a failed attempt at flashing a CFW, because the Pandora's battery totally ignores whatever garbage may be on the NAND left over from a bad flash. It then proceeds to format the flash0,flash1,flash2,and flash3 and writes the new firmware components.

Without a pandora's battery, however, it is nearly, if not impossible to resurrect one with a bad flash.

And with Dark Alex's Despertar Del Cementario setups for the "Magic" memory stick, you can flash back to official firmware. As I've done many times for people at GameStop.

I had a kid who was trying to play some MLB game and it ran an update on his system, but he took the UMD out before it was finished. His parents were trying to return it... I ran my pandora setup on it and flashed it to 3.90 Official firmware.

You can get the pandora battery with the memory stick for $30 on ebay.

That would be a good way to go. Just make sure you let him know you want it pandorized, otherwise you'll just get a standard battery & memory stick.

It's easy to fix bricked PSPs. That's a horrible trade though. Now about that 60GB PS3...

He's NOT trading his PS3 for an iPod and two dead PSPs. Even I could do better than that...

As i said, how much do you want an ipod touch?
Personally, i hate the whole ipod culture so i couldn't care less about it and i had a PSP for a year. Absolutely loved Crisis Core. That was it. I got bored of it and sold it on.

If you're sick of your ps3 i would sell it for cash, not a trade. Then take the money and get yourself a new GPU or something.

Isn't that 60GB PS3 going for $450 used???
