After doing a search on these forums and finding nothing I make this topic....

I am looking to throw up a dedicated box to host some things will this work for a 20 person ventrilo server and maybe a TF2 16 slot?


Intel q6700 + 4gigs & 500gb hard drive

on a 20/2 internet connection?

20/2 home connection? Won't cut it for hosting a bunch of people in a game.

ya the download doesnt matter is the upload that matters, 2MB may do 8 people, the best way is to set up a server and test it out.

is the server only hosting a vent server and the game? or anything else...

Most likely just a ventrilo server

Just ventrilo...I would *think* it would be alright. But isn't it just a better idea to pay for rental of one instead of wasting the machine and the power?

I'd have to agree with that. You can get a 20-man vent for about $4-5/month which would most likely be less than running a rig 24/7.
