What cause's this

What cause's the moniter to go black with the led flashing.I was just reading the forums and the moniter goes black cannot reset I have to switch the power off then on to get a reboot.It has done it while just browsing, installing apps and while in the middle of a clean install? When drive integrity was being checked the writing in front of the percentage counter suddenly scambles. I ran a drive fittness test over the hard drive with no errors reported.What is about to die?

Not overclocked and i have the latest drivers it started yesterday no problems this morning touch wood.Do you think its more a PSU problem there is still power running to the tower when it blacks out.Mind you when i booted up this morning i had to turn the power on and off because it did not post fist time?
