I'm buying some components and building a computer. The motherboard (Abit TH7II-RAID) comes with three USB 2 ports but no Firewires.
Do you think i need firewire ports in the computer? The only useful thing taking advantage of it at the moment is the Ipod, but do you think in the future most external devices will use this or use USB 2?

btw is USB 2 faster than firewire?

Depends, If u wana run a External HD or something on Firewire. But u don't really 'need' firewire, I don't own 1 thing that uses it.
But if u do want it later on just get a PCI firewire card...

I havent see any motherboards with firewire on board. U need firwire for real time video, external burners (usb supports only up to like 10x burner), harddrives, etc

no, you do not need firewire, but as others have mentioned, if you plan on doing any DV (digital video) or plan on having an external hard drive or anything of that nature then yes you would need firewire, also yes USB 2 is faste,r firewire is 400mbits/s while USB 2 i believe is 480mbits/s ( i may be wrong it might be 460, please correct me if i am wrong) also, if i was going to choose between firewire and USB 2 i would go with firewire, there are just more products out there that support it right now opposed to USB 2.
