heheh. :) well.. my 3rd post for the day.. i love this forum and how fast and good u reply..! thx!

i ordered the st6 mobo and i was wondering what a safe vcore would be?
the default voltage is 1.75! how much can i push it without doing the pin-mod? on this bp6, the max is 1.95v!
and how much is safe? is over 2v gambeling even if cpu loads @ 40>45'C?
thx. :)
the cooler is a taisol with copper btw.. hope it fits the st6? :)

What CPU are we talkin about here?

Some (actually a lot) ppl will say 1.9-1.95 is safe, the way I look at it is a bit different, as long you have good cooling you shouldn't have a problem running it @ 2.1V (I've run mine @ 2.24V:eek: ).

According to Intel's spec's 2.1V is the maximum, but I'm sure there is a small margin, But better safe than sorry, so I advice you not to go over 2.0V....unless you're willing to take a (small) risk.

This is just my opinion.

I think the ST6 will only go to 1.825V on the coppermines without the pin trick... Or at least that's what I remember from mine when I stuck my P3-1000E in my ST6 for a brief stint.

1.825 :( ohh man. that sux! then im afraid ill haveto do the pin trick pretty fast.. dont like it at all. :( can someone explain what the other method is? not wiring pins but something else?
thx.

the cpu is a coppermine c2 1ghz 128 kb cache..
and can u find me a pic and draw what pins im gonna connect? i wanna be SO sure now since i fried my last cpu failing . :((

ohh, and one more question. :) will the taisol w/ copper fit on this cpu & mobo combination? thx !!

You'll soon find out ;)

The ST6, because of the VRM, won't go past 1.825v from my understanding. For non-tualatin chips this might be an issue, but for tualatins it is not (wouldn't want to push more).

not more than 1.825v BEFORE the pin-modd i hope? i can still do that to give me 2v etc? hmmm... :(

anyone who knows if a taisol fits? thx.

No, the motherboard has a peak...

The Pin mod only raises the default voltage for the processor, not the motherboard's ability to produce voltage.

It's a hardware limitation set by the manufacturer. I wouldn't know the first thing about getting past 1.825v with my board (same type of board as the ST6).

in other words -- You would have to increase the voltage of the entire motherboard (not just the processor voltage) to get it to send more than 1.825v to the processor.

Yes you're right Pinky!! VRM 8.5 as used on the ST6 and all other Tualatin compatible boards only supports a maximum voltage of 1,825V!!
The only chance for you would be to use a adjustable resister soldered into the socket to increase the VCore through the resisitor on fly, like some crazy Japanese OCers did.

And Furhtermore, with a coppermine chip it won't even let you boot at 1,825V, but only at a max of 1,8V because for the extra 0,025V a special pin is needed, that is only built into the Tualatin chips.

Perhaps the ST6 will let you select values above 1,8V in BIOS(like my former MSI 815EPT Pro did), but it will never boot at a VCore aboe 1,8V!

OMG! what about the TUSL2 then?
hurry plz.. ill haveto cancel the order in that case..

All Tualatin Boards have the same problem, when running a Coppermine in it!! So it's the same with the TUSL2!!!

You'll have to get a non-Tualatin board, like for example the Abit BX-133 or the Asus CUSL2! These support VCores above 1,8V for Coppermines!

Hey Ris,how about to buy Tualeron 1.0Gig instead of Coop.Celery?
if you do that u won't need to buy another mobo when u choose to upgrade later on..

;( damn..
well, i guess ill for 1150 stable, and then later on upgrade to a tualatin cpu and sell this coppermine. thx anyways! :(

Yup, my Abit ST6 won't allow my P3-1000E to even run at 1.33GHz...

Tualatin mobo + CuMine CPU = No good oc.
