safe to use $2 Japaneese phone batteries?

ok, so i just got a HTC Dream/ G1, and the battery lasts no more than a couple of hours, so i was thinking of buying a spare battery
but i hear of batteries exploding and burning people

so would using somthing like this

be a hazard to me or my mobile hardware?

Stay far far away from low end ebay batteries. They will perform poorly and yes the issues you listed are real. Spend the money for an OEM battery and you and your phone will be happier.

There were instances of laptops catching fire due to low end batteries I think.

The Japanese batteries probably would be fine but these probably are Chinese knock offs

Also if you will buy anything go with higher capacity than stock battery
