$99.

Anyone know if they've fixed that big firmware issue for good. I've heard about this drive dying alot, and I don't want to lose 1.5tb of data anytime soon.

Edit: I forgot to put the price in the title, can someone do that for me?

i only run 2 seagate drives at a time and I got 4 failures in the last 2 years . . . I don't think I would even put another of their drives in my rig for free.

I follow tons of threads on large hard drives and in regards to the seagates there a few more users then usual posting that they have had problems, however everyone who has more then 4 drives seems satisfied and usually come back for more. If you look through deal posting on these drives at [h] and slick deals there are tons of users with 10+ drives that are happy.

Basically my take on these drives is that the problems they went through earlier are over now but old drives still have a higher chance to fail then usual even with firmware updates.

Also the fact that major computer news and review websites haven't run articles on these drives failing in months shows, at least to me, that the issues have been solved on current shipping drives.

its not only the drives that concern me, but purchasing through dell also has its downside...i originally purchased 2 of these through them a few months back for under 87$ i didnt experience issues with one, but one had the bad firmware so i tested it for a bit before asking for a return/exchange and it was worse than pulling teeth.

so just be careful with these two in the mix.

I wouldnt buy one not even for half that price, losing information is the worst thing ever.

My 750gb died after 6 months of use and picked up a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB instead.
