Hi im new to OC'ing and i cant stop reading what everybody has pushed there pc's to do.

Im looking at getting a Shuttle AK31 mobo w/ Duron 950 combo from tigerdirect. The fan is a Volcano6CU+. As prices are up on Memory im only getting 128Mb Pc2100. Also a new case w/ 300 1.4 Amd approved ps. For the Vid im looking at Geforce MX200 64Mb card. The rest im gutting out of my gateway, only cause i have to keep it under $350 total. any other configs under $350 shipped is appreacited. I have read on the northbridge fan giving ppl trouble and will keep an eye on it.

First of all, Welcome to the forum.

What you've got there looks pretty good. The DURON on the AK31 will give you a viable upgrade path for the future, that board supports the latest XP's from AMD. You should be able to upgrade to 2G+ down the road if so inclined.

Although I'm partial to the Epox boards at this time, the Shuttle offering is no slouch with the KT266 / KT266A chipset.

I've made many purchaces from Tiger Direct over the past few years and have had no problem with them. Their shipping is reasonable and I've had no problems with delivery. Their prices are pretty good, but if you are looking to save a few bucks, there are some alternatives out there. I also deal with NewEgg and have found them to carry the latest products sooner than Tiger Direct at a better price. The motherboard / CPU combo that you are considering will cost you about $20 less through them, I didn't check the shipping charges, but they've been in line for me in the past.

Whoever you decide to purchase your parts from, I think that you'll be satisfied with the system that you've got planned.

Welcome to the "other" side.

Let us know how it goes.

Good Luck!
