Hey guys, I am running the system in my thread, and this is my problem.

I have my screensaver set to go off 5 minutes after nothing happens.......so whenever I go to school and leave my comp on, I expect to come home to see it on.

Well..........whenever the screensaver is on for more than 30 minutes, the computer freezes.........but sometimes there is a little (very tiny) dot on the top left hand side of my monitor. After this, I have to hard restart.

My screensaver was first set to default (just a black screen), but then I tried to set it to one that ran a message across it, thinking that this would stop it from freezing, but it didnt work.

So, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

OK a couple of things to run through possible causes.
1st, what OS? Presuming 98/ME. Which I had the same problem in one of those, cant remember which. However never found the fix for it. Sorry there....
2nd, Have you gone into the screensaver settings and told it not to go into hibernate mode? That was one problem I had with several OS's. It goes into hibernate mode and freezes completely.

See if the second can fix it... if not, sorry.. :(

hmmm, i am not sure what your problem is, but it almost sounds as if it is a memory leak, and a bad one at that,or even a virus.. have you ran any virus and trojan scans lately? also it may help us if we knew what OS you where using :)

I am running Win2000/Pro.

I checked my hibernation mode, and it is not turned on.

In W2K pro. there 2 different setting in screensaver.
there regular screensave which use software for your video card and the other one would be OpenGL mode.
If it on regular one then try OpenGL, or the reverse.

Good luck.

Really?

OK, found it.

How many CPU cycles willl the OpenGL screensaver use? I have FOLDING@HOME running in the background.

Will there be a major loss in Folding?

If u set it to OpenGL it use video card hardware not your CPU.
you folding will have all the CPU power.

OK, thanx for all the help. I will see if the OpenGL works.
