I've been trying and researching for a few days to get the gigabit ethernets working on my 680i SLI board but haven't been able to. I am trying to connect two computers (my laptop and the 680i sli board) using 4 feet of cat5e cable.
Both computers have the latest drivers installed, but only my laptop has the option to force 1.0 Gbps full duplex. My 680 board is limited to 100Mbps Full duplex, and thats why I think the problem lies there. When I set my laptop to gigabit and my 680 to auto-negotiate, the connection reverts to 100Mbps.
I'm at a loss here. Both are gigabit capable, Have drivers dated from within the last few months, and I'm using a short length of gigabit-capable cable as a direct connection between the two computers.
Am I missing something?
EDIT: turns out you shouldn't have your buddy classify your cables for you. The cable I've been using only had 4 wires in it. *facepalm*
