I am new, and I have a quick question. I have already found the guides to overclock so Im not going to ask you how..
I am going to ask those that have 1ghz if my setup is going to be the right setup for doing so?
To those of you that have, have any problems occured that would make me just stick at 1ghz and hold off till the price comes down on XP chips..

Thanks!!

what stepping is it? In case you don't know. It's a 4/5 letter string on the core of the processor. Should be something like AXIA, AYHJA, AYHJAR, AYIA .... This sometimes makes a difference as different steppings overclock better than others.

Cheers:beer:

Welcome to the forums!

MBM5 + Sisoft sandra. Turn your FSB up bit by bit and test with these progs. Good cooling (low to mid 40's C max) = better OC. I got my girlfriend's Athlon T-bird 1000 up around 1200, but the cpu has a crappy heatsink and it's always hot in her apartment.

Considered unlocking? Gives you more flexibilty. For example, since heat is an issue in the system I mentioned above, I turned the multiplyer down by half a step (from 7.5 to 7) and raised FSB from 133 to 144. The Cpu runs just a little bit faster, but everything else runs much faster with the higher FSB.

First, welcome to OC.com :D

Other than cooling, I can't see any reason not to twist'er tail a bit :)
Unlocking our old Tbirds is easier than the XPs but could be useful practice. As a temporary solution, I pencilled mine.
I've got my AYHJA-9 1@1.5 GHz (10x150).

k, thanks for the replies, I will pop her open this weekend and check the stepping, Hope she is the right one to get up to 1.5ghz.. would make me real happy..
I am going to order a better cooler before doing that tho..

using fuzzy logic3 I can get it up to 148fsb stable..

will keep you posted..

Here you go. Use this to decipher the codes on the chip (http://www.ocinside.de/index_e.html?/html/workshop/socketa_id.html)

Just hope you don't get an Arga like I did. Can't post any higher then 1.2 gigs with it. Oh well. I'ts still 200mhz more then I paid for. I think I may get a little more success once I get a new board.

As said above, depending on the stepping you should be able to do well with what you have. I have a 1G T-BIRD AXIA-Y on an Epox 8KHA+ that runs 1.4G+ easily. The best results have been reported from steppings; AXIA, AVIA and AYHJA.

Another advantage you have is the DDR board with the KT266A chipset. This later chipset has better memory managment features that allow a "stable" elevated FSB. I'm able to run my AXIA with a 168MHZ FSB on the 8KHA+.

Good Luck!
