Im thinking about embeding my overclocked settings into my 2 hd 4830 but i dont know enought about it. What are the pros and cons and what is the easiest safest way of doing this?

Thanks

you can read your bios with gpuz and flash it with atiflash in dos but i dont know what program you would need to edit the bios...

why dont you just overclock using CCC the oc should stay saved on reboot...

CCC on startup, thats the easy way, yup. :bday:

GPUZ to extract the Bios, RBE to edit it and winflash to flash it back to the card.

advantages: Voltage control, no need to rely on CCC, dynamic fan control (You can specify a temperature range that the fan tries to keep), higher overclock possible than CCC allows.
disadvantages: risks. Risk of flashing your card unusable (that's revertable if you know how to do it however). If you OC to high for some applications you must downclock it for those.

atiflash is better than winflash

thanks :) at the moment im using riva tuner but for some reason it keeps on changing back to factory settings which is annoying, so, im thinking about using rbe bios editor to modify the highest overclock settings and then use ccc to overclock it. will this perminently overclock the card during gameplay?

winflash is more comfortable to me, especially since I don't have a floppy drive.

Never had a problem with it.

As he has 2 cards, he can also reflash one if something goes wrong without a problem.

That said, ATIflash might still be a safer choice if he has a floppy.

I believe however, that these times are over. If you have a stable running system winflash should be fine.

as long as your pc is stable you should be fine with winflash but i still like ati flash better and you dont need a floppy lol you can use a pendrive

I have tried using atiflash but i found it too confusing to set up so i think i will use winflash :D

lmao its not as hard as it seems you should give it a chance you might need it one day

i would rarther use it but i cant get it to boot properly using the techpowerup instructions if you explain to me how to then i will use it, this is my first build so i am still a "noob" :D could you explain how to do it or point me at a better guide?

did you use the hp bootdisk creater thing on the pendrive? if you were able to do that all you have to do is plug in the pendrive and select it as a first boot device in the bios or press f8 during boot might be f11 or f12 haha one of those and select where you want to boot from ie. cdrom hdd pendrive ect ect

once your in dos all you have to do is type in the command like atiflash bla bla bla bla

PhilMax

yeah i got it to boot up and everything but then i got stuck, how do i start atiflash and what are all the commands?

xtkxhom3r

here is a list of all the commands http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=811343

for 2 cards you should use -pa <name of file> but i feel more comfortable using -p 0 <name of file> the "0" is the first card "1" would be for the 2nd card and -p is the flash

so the full command you need to use is "atiflash -p 0 (name of file)"
dont forget the extension it could be .rom or .bin

if it gives some kind of error you can use the -f command that will force the flash i needed to do that for my 4890's for some reason...

right well i did it and it works for the top one but whenever i flash the bottom one i get a blue screen. is their anything i need to do beforehand, with the drivers etc? i have tryed uninstalling the drivers once they have been flashed but i get the same blue screen. i have flashed the bois's back to the originals and have done a system restore. if anyone has any ideas let me know? thanks

im thinking the bottom one cant overclock as high as the top one.. try lowering the clocks a little bit for the bottom one or raise the voltage a little bit

did you change the voltage tables or do you still have the highest voltage set at 1.3sumthin? i changed my 3dclock voltage to 1.4 and was able to get 1020/1100

possibly but i have been runing them at that speed with no volt mods using rivatuner for about 2 months now but that is the highest it will go with them being at the same clocks. i have not tried different clocks on each card. in a single card setup the top one reaches around 800/1030 but in xf only 735/1030, could this be because the clocks decrease with extra cards or because the newer bottom one doesnt overclock as high? i have not tryed this with the bottom one because i just put it in with the other and off i went :)

im guessing the bottom one doesnt oc as good as the top one...

or maybe a psu problem what psu do you have?

its not the cards, the same thing happends when i reverse the cards (bottem --> top, top -->bottem) and it shouldnt be the power supply because i havent volt modded it im so confused. argh! :D

try running one card at a time

PhilMax
07-03-09, 09:38 PM
already tryed that. its not the overclock ability either ive tested them both seperatly the both go to nearly 800. i have tryed everything i can think of, the only problem i can see is that im not using RBE correctly or its not working correctly... so i have just put the original bios back on ant everything is working normaly again. i wish it did work though :(
thanks for your help :)

Did you extract the original bios from the 2nd card with gpuz and then mod it with rbe?
I would also do them separately..

PhilMax
07-04-09, 07:53 AM
yeah i did that too, it works fine on win7 with their drivers but as soon as i install 9.5 i just get a blue screen, also happends if i enable crossfire. heres my rig if you think that might help:
E8400 @ 3.7, asus p5q3 deluxe, 4gb ocz intel extreme, 600w ocz stealth x stream, 500gb hatachi and a hp disk drive.

and my cards are XFX hd4830's if that makes any difference :)

try 9.6 those are the latest ones

Well if you want to try the "old school" way of installing crossfire...? It's a little more time consuming. But we can give it a go..

PhilMax
07-06-09, 05:14 PM
I already tried it on 9.6 and the same thing happened. i read something about some file, atikmdag.sys anyone know what it is i heard something about it being important?

What is the "old school" way? it sounds interesting ;)

i have just had another crack at this, turns out that i can oc the core to 736 but it wont let me change the ram settings :S so i have set the core to 736 and oc he ram using rivatuner :D
