Alright, I have a new apartment and I want to buy new wirless equipment since I will not have the convienance of having all my computers in one room. So here is what I am looking for: I need a wirless router that can do more than what it should be allowed to do. I like the ability to configure every last bit on my router.

I have been reading a lot on the DGL-4500 router and its bascially what I want. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is due to its bad firmware that is out, supposedly.

If you guys have any suggestions or comments please help me out here. I'm not in a huge rush but I would like to order soon.

D-Link's wired products and wireless client adapters are great. Their wireless routers are some of the worst you can buy. Supposedly some of the latest firmwares are better, but I still avoid them like the plague. Have never had a single problem with Linksys stuff, but I've always used DD-WRT. Currently using a WRT350N (with DD-WRT), and have not had a single dropped connection in the time I've had it. Have had some bad and good Netgear stuff, and DD-WRT is compatible with some of their newer 802.11n stuff.

The WRT610N is a bit cheaper than the DGL-4500, and is currently supported by latest Eko builds of DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=317437#317437) if you want to try them. Looks like restoring to stock firmware in case of breakage is also extremely easy. Unplug ethernet, power cycle, 5-second reset, plug in ethernet, and flash from web interface.

One thing I would really like though, is 1gig Lan ports.

I used DD-WRT back in the day but never really liked its early uses. I'll have to look into it again.

WRT610N and DGL-4500 both have Gb WAN and LAN.

Newegg's 802.11abgn Gb WAN/LAN routers:

Trendnet TEW-672GR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156240) $49.99
Linksys WRT610N (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124296) $144.99 (DD-WRT available)
D-Link DGL-4500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127243) $150.99

Amazon.com has the WRT610N for $139.95.

I decided on the WRT 310N or 620N which ever I can afford. The D-Link routers are having to much problems with their firmware.
