I don't want to steal the thunder from my article that should be out next week, but I just finished some extensive testing on the HHC-001. It is definitely ranks among the top 5 HSFs. That, having been said, it really benefits from lapping. The unit I got had sanding lines in it so deep, you could strike a white tipped match on it. After lapping it to a smooth, matte finish, with 600 Wet-of-Dry, its performance inproved dramatically. More details in my article, but in a nut shell, Lap that puppy!

Just about any water block or heatsink can use a little lapping. It just isn't worth it for companies to machine a mirror surface. Mothers polish works wonders for making a mirror finish.

id lap mine, but the finest grit ive found around here is 400, and that doesnt do crap towards lapping :( ill have to get one 1000grit or something..

it shouldn't be that hard to find finer grit sand paper...

go to your local auto zoen or checker... they will have sandpaper

up to 2000 grit

I definitely agree that all heatsink or water block should be lapped to be optimized for its best performance. I just lapped my Volcano 6cu+ now its perfectly flat and now I'm waiting for my rig to test it out.

.....Tell us you mutilated and cut that thing apart and used the Hootspectrascopamometer to ascertain the mysteries of that heatsink

Excuse me if I chuckle here. I was "this close" to buying one and ended up buying a CoolerMaster CB5-6G52-01.

It came like you said, deep scratches in the base. I had to spend about an hour lapping them and still couldn't get rid of all the scratches.

I ended up returning that HSF. very poor performance.

Didn't think I could get the heat pipes to go by the resistor on the mobo. So I bought a H20 setup.

Now that you have cut the pipes off, Hoot, how is the performance? did it drop? I read the thread you had B4 on it.
And saw the inside of the tubes. no liquid.
Now that it's empty.........? it probably performs like it's little brother.

(I know you'd never run a HS after being cut)

Warrior,

Now if Hoot told you that now, it wouldn't make his Article on it next week as action packed ;)
