I just ordered a d-link nas on sale in newegg with 2 wd 1tb greens, primarily as video network streaming and data backup, should i go for blacks?

For NAS the green drives are ideal. Your transfer speeds are going to be limited by your NAS setup anyway. The green's are pretty close, even at 5400rpm, to the blacks, especially the newer 500gb platter models. You -might- get one of the new ones.

Check the sub code when you get them: WD10EADS-00M2B0 is the new one.

blacks are a complete waste of money for a nas go with the cheapest $/gig you can get as even 5400rpm drives can saturate gigabit ethernet

tyvm for the reply dudes, im still trying to find a nas that supports usb since its a media storage connected to the network and i want to connect the nas directly to my bluray player for optimized video.

WD blacks are not a waste of money! For a NAS you won't need em, but they are very fast.

that is not what i was trying to say at all. I should have put a period after nas to make what I was trying to say clearer

I'd recommend going with the greens. If you get the blacks for NAS, you are just throwing money away. You won't be able to tell the difference. I'd go for quality in this case instead of speed.

How it is quality over speed? It seems to me more of cost/power/heat vs speed.
