I want to update my xbox360 without physically moving it to the room with my router or purchasing the wireless adapter. Is it possible to connect the xbox with an ethernet cable to my laptop and then use the wireless in the laptop which is connected to my wireless router to access the internet.

wireless router -------->wireless laptop->ethernet cable->xbox360

I tried sharing my internet connection, but it seems as though that does not work, or i am not doing something correctly.

Thanks

Windows ICS will only set the computer to 192.168.0.1. Your router needs to be set to 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.2.1, or 192.168.3.1, etc. and giving 192.168.1-3.1.x addresses for DHCP, also.

It is also possible that the Xbox doesn't work very well behind double NAT.

Windows would tell him if there was an IP conflict. But it is a good idea to check it out anyway.

I also do not know how old the laptop is, it should not be an issue, but might be good to find out if your laptop or xbox has autosensing ports. IT is possible you could need a crossover cable. (Just guessing)

Also since I do not have a 360, do you have the option to "setup internet" on the xbox? Or have the laptop setup first, plug i nhte xbox and then power it up?
