Hi and welcome to the forums, heh, we all have been noobs around here, as well as I did, u'll learn, if u'll stick around.

Ok now for ur Q...
To get an idia on how much u can O/C ur lil monster goto the CPU database on the front page, and to learn the basics of O/C goto begginers guides also on the front page.
U'll have all the Qs that u need answered. but if not u always are welcome to ask them here.
Good luck

Welcome to the forums :D

As for a starting point, check out the beginner guides (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES) on the main page.

As for you system being able to Overclock, I can't be sure as I don't know much about your system. If it is possible to overclock it, the settings would be found in the bios screen. If you can find out what brand and model of motherboard and bios you have, you can find out for sure if its possible to overclock.

Make sure you get some good temp monitoring software, and check out the cooling forum before attempting any big overclocks, as heat is the number one killer of CPUs while overclocking. Good luck :)

Welcome to the forums.

These people are right, there's a wealth of info hear that no money could buy. But be careful, overclocking can lead to excessive use of fans, constantly running to the store for new gadgets, and may lead to a much faster computer.:D (Or a dead one if your not carefull, like me an my 1700+:eh?: ) Oh well, it's a trial and error game, hope ya have fun, and please ask as many questions as your hearts desire. We're all willing to help.

Now, how fast did you wanna make that sucker go?

Cheers:beer:

That might be tough. :D

Thats a pretty healthy overclock for that chip. ~33%... Good luck.

ollolool I dont even know how to open my Bios yet lolololo From what I understand from reading the stuff yall told me to read. If i overclock the cpu then it raises my fsb....which makes the Video card run HOTTER ?????? my brain hurts:(  I geass first i need to find out what kind of motherboard I have...Can the chip set # 1039:0530 rev.2 tell me anything....and is it ok if i dip my chip in Ranch:D

u can also use your multiplier to overclock that thing and it will only effect the cpu but you are most likely going to get more of a performance gain out of your fsb. also u might not need to go into your bios at all... i think most motherboards for the k6-2 had jumpers and/or dip switches on them

BTW is it a k6 or a k6-2..... looking at ur first post i am not sure if u ment to type k6-2

Its gonna be pretty confusing at first, but you got it right...do all the reading of the beginner guides and check out other sites like howstuffworks.com... they have basic explanations of almost everything. This will get your feet wet and probably wet your appetite for more info as you get more into it. The basics of overclocking are pretty simple, it can be explained in a few steps how to overclock a computer...the trick is knowing how to troubleshoot problems (like what is limiting your OC) and understanding the risks involved with what your doing (fry the CPU, etc.).

First of all, Welcome to the forums.

I have had some pretty good luck with the K6 line of CPU's in the past. (K6III+ 450 @ 616MHz)

First, the K62 series is not known to overclock that well. A modest increase to 500/550 MHz may be the max that you will get.

The motherboard will be the most important part of this endeavor. If you are fortunate, you will have the necessary voltage settings as well as FSB and multiplier options. I've had good luck with the FIC VA503+ board.

There are several different versions of the various K6 chips and a variety of default voltage requirements for each. The later "+" chips default is 2.0V where as some of the older K6's is 2.6V (this info is stamped into the cap on the CPU). You have to be careful when increasing the voltage, when you too get high, you don't get "a little bit too high."

Cooling is the most important aspect with these CPUs, good advise would be to use a HSF from a later socket A CPU such as the Global Win FOP32. Another trick that has worked for some is to remove the cap to expose the CPU's core, this will usually result in lower temps.

One more thing, the later K6 CPU's were reworked to recognize the 2x multiplier as 6x.

There have been several threads dealing with these CPUs in the past, Start with this one;

http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=51167

Then do a search through the older threads and I'm sure that you'll find enough reading to keep you busy for a while.

Another member, "eobard", has been very successful with these and is probably the most knowledgeable in here. Hopefully, he'll jump in on this tread and add to the above.

Keep in mind, with the falling prices of the later socket A DURONS / T-BIRDS, it would be very easy to invest too much money on that aging socket 7 platform.

Good Luck!
