Pretty sure I can answer this one myself, but thought I'd throw it up to the wealth of knowledge on this board...:) (enough sucking now)

Ok, got my new Swiftech MCX370 with Thermaltake 80mm smart (2900-5000 rpm) fan and 60-80 adaptor, followed all the ASII instructions, but struck a problem: no nylon spacers for the spring mounting clips...

Stuck it on anyway and now have:

idle 33/48
f-load 33/51

fan running at 3600 rpm.

Anyone want to confirm that I need to get some spacers. Any idea what size?

Also, while I'm at it, I didn't use the rubber spacers (which wouldn't fit as nylon spring spacers btw) on the 60-80mm adaptor as it didn't seem a good fit. Should I?

Thanks.

Well, I'm pretty sure you're talking about the MCX370 and not the MCX462 both of which I have. The MCX370 still uses lugs...*pause* OKAY, I looked at my MCX370 and its a little tricky to mount but here goes....
I don't have any spacers or washers on the mounting springs. You don't HAVE to have them. Now on the MCX462 you HAVE to use them. If you feel as though you can't live without them, then head to a hardware parts store and buy some nylon washers...size 6 or 8 or something like that. When I mount it I tighten the screws down and put them on the lugs and then loosen them as far as it is effective, (essentially tightening the HSF seating). And that is it...My temps are on a 1.4 T-bird OC'ed to 1.6 and I fluxuate between 35°C to about 44°C between idle and load. So you are alright, a little hot....are you using any Artic Silver? Is your fan blowing on the heatsink? What processor do you have? Is it overclocked?

Definately the MCX370. Using Artic Slver II and I did follow the instructions fairly closely.

I've got a 1.2 Athlon oc'd to 1.33. The fan seems to be blowing (not sucking), but I may need to unmount the fan and double-check (very quickly). I can feel air movement on top of the fan, and feels like it's moving in the right direction, but a little hard to tell.

My concern is that it doesn't feel quite as secure as my old FOP38 and is now running about 4 degrees hotter.

Well the fan was sucking, notblowing - so one mystery solved, but didn't make much of a difference to the temps. So time to invest in some spacers I think...

Thanks for the help.
