View Full Version : ram question
what sound does your mobo/computer make when you dont have rams?
I want to get rams but want to make sure the computer is still alive, its been around 2-3 year olds before i have touched it. the cpu hdd and everything is still on, i took out the rams and wanting to get new ones. i get a 2-3 second beeeeeeep noise, constantly, like beeeeeeeeep, beeeeeeeeeeep, 1-2 second delay before another 2-3 beep, does that mean the computer is still alive and just need rams?

Where are you at exactly, If in the U.S. You can usually just go to any random store (walmart even) buy some cheap ddr2, then try it out. If it works and you want a better grade of memory take it back (keep reciept of course) but If it does'nt work you can return it as well.
Make sure before buying that the store has a 30 day money back guarantee policy that covers memory and that you can get full refund without paying restocking fee. Its sorta using the system but there is a chance the computer will work and therefore you will keep the memory so the right intentions are there in the purchase.
As per beep codes have you tried to look for a manual online to your motherboard...I dont know the codes myself so someone else will have to chime in on that one.
Hmm, the memory worked fine. they are ddr btw not ddr2. but after restarting it once or twice, i get nothing but a black screen now, any help? ive removed cmos battery, did the jumper, idk whats wrong :S it doesnt show bios screen either.

Ever wonder what those beeps mean and why there is an error?
