I am ging to try out an inline water chiller I made this weekend. It consists of a 72W pelt attached to a 80mm x 30mm x 1/2" copper water block I have and a taisol 80mm x 60mm HSF with an 80mm Panaflo L series fan (24CFM). I'm mounting it ouside the case with the tubing running inside. I'll connect up 3 power supplies to get the full current I need at 15V. Any body out there had an luck with these type of things?

i havn't got to watercooling yet :( poor poor me
but i guess full load 39°C @ 149x11 isnt to bad

From what I have seen water chillers arent all that efficient. I would like to see how well it actually works. Will your project be done soon?

PunkGeek,

I forgot to change my system temps in my sig. I tried to claibrate them by comparing the load temps for 700MHz and 980Mhz. I read that you can then determine a compensation that is supposed to 'correct' the thermistor. I found iut was supposed to be -5-6C for me so 'supposed' real temps MAY be like my new sig. It's an insocket thermistor so who really knows?

Bender,

I should have the pics this weekend and bar any real work to do on Monday at work ;) I will write it up and sent it in to get posted.

In theory with absolute efficiency you should achieve ambient temps i.e. the amount of heat lost to the TEC should about equal the amount of heat transfered by the w/b. In practice I would say that your temps may reduce to 25-26C. Will be interesting to see how it comes out.

i don't see how the peltier is going to to cool the water? if you have it attached to a water block it is going to be coolng the hot side...
if it were me... i would... go buy a good sized heat sink like a alpha 8045 or even something cheaper like a volcano 7 ( its only a 72 watt pelt) attach the water block to the COLD side of the pelt and the volcano 7 to the HOT side of the pelt.. the insulate everything but the heatsink to maxmize effinecy.
as far as placement in the loop... after the radiator... before the cpu.... i think that should do a good job....

Scottland,

That is exactly what I did. Water block on the cold side and a Taisol 60 mm x 80 mm HSF on the hot side. I moved my rad to be in the front of my case with room air comming in through it and added a water block to my northbridge too. My temps are a degree or two lower but I am not yet sure the temp drop is from the pelt. I will let it run like this overnight and then turn the pelt and it's hsf off and see what I get. I was trying to powerthe pelt with 15V from three old PSU's but I couldn't get it to work yet. Either way I am sure I need a bigger pelt to cool the system I am thinking of getting a 127W'er from Becoooling next week and replaceing the little 72W one I am using now. I have also thought about direct pelt cooling but I don't really feel like dealing with condensation prevention right now. Thanks!

A radiator with a peltier may have a reverse affect. If the peltier is able to cool below room temperature and the cpu doesn't raise the water above room temperature, the radiator will only increase the temperature of the water. Maybe try cooling the water with a peltier only.

I had a similar chiller setup that turned out to be basicly worthless- I ended up scrapping it.

I tested the system with the chiller turned off and it temps went up a degree so I got maybe 1C from the chiller and 1C from the system replumb. I am still fiddling though, I think I may buy another pump and set up a water water chiller with one loop for the cpu and one loop for the pelt. Before I try that I want to beef up the chiller's pelt and see if that helps. I agree that the radiator may actually warm the water that the pelt has cooled but that was the idea. I want an ambient to just barely below ambient system without a bong. If I wanted coler I could just direct pelt cool the CPU with a larger pelt, I would probably cool the North bridge as well if i did that. Thanks for all the feed back!
