Hi, Im soon going to be moving into my new house and Im going to finally get a chance to set up my living room the way I want it.

So I have my 40inch HD Samsung tv, my Sony suround sound dvd system and all my music and a few films on my pc.

My DVD suround sound system has right and left audio in connections, it also has digital coaxial in and optical fibre in

Could I use use the dvi output from my graphics card for the visual and use the speaker out on my mobo into my suround sound system, but would this be in sync, eg sound alongside visual.

yes, it'd be fine, I've done it before when playing around with an older system. If you have a newer card that supports HDMI, you can use the (usually provided) DVI-HDMI converter and plug it straight from the vid card to the TV, which will also provide sound.. And should theoretically play out of whatever is connected to the TV (doesn't work on mine for some reason.. Has to be directly conected, so not sure).

But What mobo you using anyway? With it's own sound card? Onboard/ Does it use coaxial/digital outputs? If these are available to you, use them, the audio will sound more crisp and all that jazz.. Lol. :p

ah its a 9800GT with two HD DVI out.

Im not sure about about connecting it directly, i think the only way i can use my surround sound is by either using it to play DVDs or using the R L audio inputs.

My mobo has an s/pdif output, what is this?

Could I connect my dvi cable to the tv and split the audio cable (one to the DVDplayer and one to my tv for its speakers so i dont always have to turn on my surround system to hear sound

http://www.systemaxdev.com/productmedia/htmlimages/cten/Asus%20motherboard/K8V-XSE-back.jpg, S/PDIF that little one there? That's a coaxial output. I.e. you could connect it to your surround system. I assume you could split the audio.. But I'm not entirely sure, especially if you would indeed be using coaxial.. Theoretically it's possible but I haven't the experience to say anything solid about it. You'll have to wait for more input or google search to find the answer concerning splitting.. That said, sif you wouldn't use your surround all the time! I know I would! Lol. My 2.1 system in my room is all that's used for my Ps3/tv alike, i never use the onboard speakers :p.
