omygoodness. I still play the old mech games from time to time. Excited!
This is great news I was wondering when they would bring back Mechwarrior.

I would be SO happy with that. Hope it is really good.

My favorites of the series were the Mercenaries versions.
Did anyone else play Multiplayer Battletech on AOL back in the day? That was the first online game that I ever got into.

Really good interview. It's still in the very early stages, the video on ign is basically something they threw together for the fans to get us excited again, it is not really an official trailer for the game. They are still working on things like getting a publisher, which will determine what kind of budget they have to develop and expand certain parts of the game. They talked briefly about co-op campaign, where they want to be able to have up to 4 people in their own mechs playing in the same lance in story mode. Also they mentioned that even though this new Mechwarrior will also appear on the 360, it will remain an action simulation game like the previous titles. The interview expressed concern that it would have an arcadey feel to make it accessable on the 360. So far so good!
Interesting it's being set in 3015 way before the clans invaded. Still I feel that this is a perfect opportunity to bring back the clan wolf emblem. And did they say 4 player coop?

Mechwarrior 4 and the addons are supposed to be available for free download soon. Would i be at a big disadvantage jus playing with mouse and keyboard and not a joystick?
I've used a joystick since the second game, it works for me. Be careful on line people are very good piloting the light mechs they can run circles around the larger ones and it can be hard to hit them. My favorite strategy was using a Vulture or should I say Mad Dog and sniping them with lrms.

Say's its a reboot of the series. Man that's getting pretty popular now isn't it?
Either way I don't care, I just want to play MW again. I been keeping tabs on Living Legends, but it still seems a while off from a playable mod.

I just have to say, 3 was awesome, 4 was very good, and from there it kinda started going south. The XBOX version was blech.
It's an mmo? I was looking forward to the version we saw a few years ago. I'm disappointed, I mean I like mechs more than tanks, but this is just a futuristic world of tanks and a real mechwarrior can easily have singleplayer and mutliplayer.

hell, I've wanted a BattleTech themed MMO for years. I'd want something more than World Of Tanks in BattleMechs. There is SO much grey-and-grey morality and political intrigue in the BattleTech Universe that it would be a shame to have none of that in the game world.
Of course I've played all the computer games going back to MechWarrior 1 and Crecent Hawks Inception back in 1987. And I've played the board game with the Warhammer was on the cover, you were lucky to get a leg actuator for salvage, and Clans were a strange Scottish tradition.

The developer promises that the F2P model will enable live metrics, iterating updates quickly, and easily testing new content with players.
"I'm not going to lie, some things can and will allow you to acquire items faster, or even instantly with real cash," creative director Bryan Ekman confessed in a blog post. However, he insisted, buying better gear will not necessarily bring an advantage.
"We're doing away with the arms race and making BattleMechs of all shapes and sizes have a purpose and role on the battlefield," Ekman said. Scout or commander, rich or poor, in theory you can have a hoot no matter what you're piloting.
And, of course, there's the obvious benefit of not having to buy a game you may turn out not to play that much.

No I totally heard what you were saying. I just think we should not get our hopes up. MW3 was like "Wow this is good". 1 and 2 were simply ground breaking. Then at 4 it started to fall off. I just hope we get a great 'mech sim' like what number 3 was. I don't want to get excited ahead of time. If it proves to be a solid title I'll be there and buy it on day 1. :)

The graphics in 3 since it is so much older are very very bad :). On the upshot, 1444 fps. yay.
The first 3 were much more 'sim'. There is a lot more overheating, a lot more of your machine can break down, and so forth. It's very different feeling than four was. Four was funnest in certain situations but 3 really feels like a sim. That's JM2C

To expand on my thoughts, 2 was epic for it's time. 3 I couldn't stand and couldn't play for more than a few minutes. It just didn't play like mechwarrior. I'm not the only one who thought this evidenced by mechwarrior 4's return to mechwarrior 2 playstyle.
Mechwarrior 4 was good, a great game merc wise, and was very playable, the only issue I had was pathing of ai's. There was one mission where you patrol to kill clanners and your stupid allies refused to go any way except THROUGH THE DAMNED MINE FIELD AND OVER THE ALMOST UNCLIMBABLE HILL.
Between falling damage and mind explosions your company almost always died on that mission.

Lead designer Paul Inouye explains, "Certain incentives can be provided to join a specific House and there can be kickbacks in terms of lower operating costs if you are in a less populated House. How in the world did I miss this? I spent more hours with my face glued to a 15" MAG monitor playing Mechwarrior 2, MW2 Ghost Bear's Legacy, and MW2 Mercenaries than I can count. I built a new Pentium90 machine just to play it.

What can be done to a BattleMech?
BattleMechs can have various components swapped out/upgraded at the cost of C-Bills. The systems that can be swapped out include:
• Weapons
• Armor
• Engines
• Heat Sinks
• Jump Jets
• ECM equipment
• Modules
How does it all fit?
MechWarrior Online incorporates a “Hardpoint” system which dictates, above all other customization, that weapons can only be swapped out with weapons of the same weapon type. For example, energy weapons cannot be swapped with ballistic weapons.
Each location on a BattleMech, such as the Right Arm or Center Torso, may include a number of hard points. The number of hard points in a given location is determined on a per variant basis, and is based on the weapons included in the variant’s default loadout. For example, a ’Mech that, by default, comes with 2 Medium Lasers and an Autocannon/2 in its Left Torso may actually have 3 energy weapon hard points and 2 ballistic hard points in that location. So, if the player is able to satisfy the weight and critical slot requirements, they could equip an additional energy weapon and ballistic weapon into that Left Torso, or swap out the Medium Lasers for other energy weapons, etc.
How do Hardpoints work?

Preview: Hands On with MechWarrior Online (http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/pc/mech-warrior-project/1224492p1.html)
...
As our team (or Lance, in MechWarrior lingo) marched forward to meet the enemy in the middle of the large rocky, lightly forested map with a wide river through it, we busied ourselves with the fiddly process of mapping our weapon groups to the mouse buttons and number keys -- handy for managing heat and ballistic ammo use. I used the Jenner's jumpjets to perch on a hill looking down on the valley, and though I was quickly chased off by laser fire, my team was already using the targeting data I'd relayed them to lock on and launch volleys of missiles from halfway across the map -- one of the main advantages to having a scout in play.
What began as a 4v4 match soon whittled down to me and an allied long-range Catapult mech against a lone enemy Atlas. It's two on one, sure, but that Atlas is mean, carrying a full arsenal of powerful particle projection cannons (PPCs) and assorted lasers, plus long-range rocket pods and nigh-impenetrable armor.
As a light mech against a heavy I was badly mismatched, but while my ally survived I felt like we had a chance: whenever the Atlas turned to track down the source of the missiles raining down on him from afar, I'd dart out from behind cover, zap him in the relatively vulnerable rear armor with heavy lasers, and jump-jet over a rock to take cover again before he could swivel his guns to target me. That tag-team approach showed how two coordinated light mechs can ruin a heavy's day. That is, until my ally failed to dodge a missile barrage and got himself killed; then it was just me and the Atlas. I still made him work for it.
MechWarrior Online isn't about bringing targets down quickly with headshots. (Hell, some don't even have heads.) Battles are much more about consistency: picking a body part and hitting it until it blows off. I targeted the Atlas' right arm as I strafed by at top speed, using jumpjets erratically to throw off his aim, hoping to disable at least some of the laser-hell chasing me everywhere I ran. Since there's no way to repair in the field, that could've evened the odds a little.
But it was only a matter of time before his PPCs took a leg out from under me. It didn't kill me outright, but it did rob my poor little Jenner-that-almost-could of the only thing keeping me alive: speed. The Atlas closed in for the kill, shrugging off my last laser blast as it pummeled me to dust with rockets. So I lost, and lost hard, but it was a well-fought battle -- and any time the most memorable story of an afternoon of matches was a battle you lost, it generally bodes well for a game.

MechWarrior Online early access program detailed (http://www.shacknews.com/article/73917/mechwarrior-online-details-early-access-program)
MechWarrior Online is beginning its closed beta this week, and developer Piranha Games and Infinite Game Publishing have announced a "founder's program" to give eager players early access to the game.
The founder's program is being called "Operation Inception," and it will go on sale June 19. Players can buy one of two tiers of early access, which will grant separate rewards. The $30 Veteran Founder's Package gives you $40 of in-game currency, a one-month premium membership for bonus XP and C-Bills, a Founder's Tag to set you apart, and early access to the game and Founder's assets on July 17.
If you want to shell out more for the $60 Elite Founder's Package, you'll get a special "Founder's BattleMech" which boosts earned C-Bills for life, $80 of in-game currency, a two-month premium membership, and the founder's tag and early access.

Start Hammer
Death Reign
If you meant "Start Hammer" to be "Star Hammer", then Star Hammer hands down.
