I recently bought an intel X-25M SSD and put a fresh copy of windows 7 RC on it using the computer in my sig. I've since loaded a handful of games, PS CS4, Nero, iTunes, and a few other programs. Everything seems snappy. PS CS4 load is really fast (~ 3 secs), I'm always the first into levels in Team Fortress 2, yada yada yada.
I installed the Windows 7 RC on my media machine (an X2 4200+, 400 Gig Seagate 7200 RPM drive.) I noticed that Win 7 launches on that machine amazingly fast. It took about 10 seconds from seeing the windows loading screen to desktop, while on my much faster gaming rig it takes about 30 seconds (I skipped the POST on both machines.)
I'm confused as to why the old machine loads so much faster. I did notice the Win7 loading screen on my media computer looked different. It didn't have the colorful balls circling around like my gaming rig did. It just had a yellow loading bar. I thought maybe that was waking up from sleep, but my test involved me clicking start, then RESTART on both machines. I don't see how a restart would use sleep at all.
Is there something strange going on on my media computer? I checked Anandtech's SSD article and my Win7 bootup time in my gaming rig seemed about right. http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531&p=29
The test is using Vista though and I know Win7 should boot up faster.
Anyone have any tips? Thanks!
