get a non-static cloth if you have one, if not a coton ball will work fine
put a little acetone ( nail polish remover) on the cotton ball ( not on the cpu) and clean of the core of the t-bird
as for the pads... leave them
to install the alpha.. screw the screws in slowly in equal amounts... for example ( 2 turns on the right front one... then 2 turns on the left back one.. then 2 turns.... you get the idea)
do that until the heatsink doesn't move around on the cpu.. and is good and solid
and your good to go..
and use ASIII if you can find it.. otherwise ASII will work just dandy :D :D :D :D

I have asII. By the core you mean just the chip itself is that top and sides or just the top

by the core i mean the raised slug that has the writting on it i.e.
ATHLONA1400 blah blah blah
you don't need to clean off the ceramic part
and if you haven't unlocked your processor get a pencil connect the L1 bridges and put a piece of scotch tape over it make sure it doesn't wear off )
but yeah.. you just need to clean the core so you can clearly see the writing underneath then apply a thin layer of ASII and put on the alpha... and one thing that will save you from any problems... is.... TAKE YOUR TIME:D :D :D :D :D
