The hierarchy of clients is now:
1) GPU - Cuda enabled NVidia (or their ATI equals), are rocking the WU's, left, right, and center. One GTX285 will earn more points per day, then any dual cpu rig, by itself. Perhaps twice as much. :D
Did you say you were thinking of upgrading your video card? :p :p :p
2) SMP - The SMP will run on duals, (really likes quads, but duals are OK), and earns some 6-7 X as much ppd as a single ("classic") client instance.
One way to improve it noticeably, is to run the SMP client either in Linux (we usually use Ubuntu (but not 8.10), distro, or use "NotFred's" virtual machine (VMPlayer), inside a Windows OS. Difference on a dually might be 400 points per day, and on a quad, perhaps 1500 ppd. All rough estimates.
Hope that helps, and glad you're back with us!

:welcome: back to the fold! If you haven't already, you may want to look into the SMP and GPU2 clients. The 2 of them together will yield much higher PPD than running multiple instances of the uni-proc client. If you have any quads, it would be worthwhile to look into NotFred VM's. The Linux clients are getting the juicy A2 WU's, so it will yield the highest PPD. I am getting around 6000-6500 PPD running off one machine with nothing more than the WinSMP client and one GPU2 client. I may be getting set up on dual VM's sometime in the course of the weekend, as long as time permits. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, as I am a T32 Folding Mentor, and I will do everything I can to help.

:welcome: back.
I was running Win SMP on a t7200 laptop, making about 900 ppd. I installed VMware/Ubuntu 8.04 and run the Linux SMP client and now it approaches 1600 ppd:
p2669
Name: Val-LT
Path: \\Vallt-vm1\fah
Number of Frames Observed: 3
Min. Time / Frame : 00:17:30 - 1579.9 PPD
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:17:45 - 1557.6 PPD
Cur. Time / Frame : 00:17:31 - 1578.4 PPD
R3F. Time / Frame : 00:17:45 - 1557.6 PPD
All Time / Frame : 00:17:45 - 1557.6 PPD
Eff. Time / Frame : 00:18:21 - 1506.7 PPD
VM + GPU is the way to maximize points. Notfreds is the easiest way to get Linux SMP going, but it's more difficult to monitor and control.
