Weird new slot on future x58 mobo's

hey, i was just looking at some images of gigabytes next lineup of x58 sata 6gbps boards, and noticed this strange slot near the dimms

( circled in red )

looks a bit pci-ish to me

Looks to be some memcard thingy. Maybe to save bios/overclocking settings?

That's a P55 board.

hmm that looks very much like the contacts for normal memory. maybe special memory for the sata controller? Lol I have no idea just a wild guess

yeah thats a P55 board, it is a NAND flash slot , quick google told me that , onboard flash memory for extra performance

If the port is not limited, and it supports high speed SSD to the tune of maybe 16GB or so, I'll be in heaven. Especially if it's supported by the onboard controllers and don't require strange foreign drivers.

sodimm??? probly for a "trusted platform module" or some kinda drive caching.

ah my mistake, it was a p55 mobo,
its not going to be on gigabytes next wave of x58's

Be nice to but an OS stripe in there for quick boots.
