I didn't look hard as it's late (4 am http://bestsmileys.com/sleeping/6.gif) but a quick search turned up only 1 source of clear PSU: Logisys brand 550w. I have no idea how that company is as far as reliable PSU.

I did find a few hits for PSU shells but PSU can vary in size, may or may not have the correct opening for existing internal fans, and not all shells would work with all PSU.

If Logisys doesn't rank in the top safe PSU, then any idea?

They make cheap PSUs as opposed to quality ones. If you look on NewEgg you can see the reviews of some of their products and you will get an idea. It's the kind of thing where you might get one that does you good for three years or one week or that is DOA. The clear PSU looks cool, though. As with all inexpensive PSUs you should not believe the wattage rating. It is usually a peak power rating rather than a sustained rating.

yeah , logisys is a cheap brand and i feel almost all manufacturers of clear acrylic PSU's will be. Thought about making the shell yourself ? Shouldn't be to hard , not to many tools are required to work with acrylic .

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4803/hysterical.gifI'd do that before I stuck that POS in one of my systems.http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4803/hysterical.gif

If I wanted a clear PSU that is.

Ok so what do I need to bend acrylia? I tried heat gun once but it started deforming and bubbled before it got soft enough to bend it. Or maybe it'd be easier to make 6 panels, make holes as needed, square rods to form cube or rectangle shape support, drill screw holes as needed, mount PSU gut in and secure it, mount fans, screw panels on it?

Have ya considered buying one of those Logisys ones and just replacing the guts? They are only $40 so depending what value you place on your time..

I hadn't thought about that. I'd have to modify the Logisys case for the 120mm fan mine has, and there's still a chance my PSU is longer than Logisys and won't fit.

I'll try eBay and see if I can find a cheap used or non working PSU with good case.

you dont have to bend the acrylic you just have to glue each piece together so all you really need is a dremel and some tapping screws to make the thread for the new holes

The joints can also be glued but if you think you might want to take it apart to change a fan or blow dust out screws would be better. Acrylic tends to melt when you use a high speed device to cut it so I'm not sure a dremmel tool is a good choice. If you score it with a knife-like sharp tool you can break it over a counter top edge like they do when cutting pieces of glass. That's how the pros do it I think. Acrylic is soft and as you said if you drill the holes the right size the screws would tap themselves.

lol iv tried that whole breaking it over a counter top thing and i wasted so much acrylic that way haha maybe i wasnt cutting deep enough i dont know but the cuts never came out the way i wanted them...

and yes it does melt a little bit with the dremel but the melted pieces break off really easily
