I currently have a Tbird 750 @840 on a Biostar M7VKB mobo. i could reach up to a 1ghz oc'd speed, but i'm worried that i'll burn out my system. Is it safe to overclock 250mhz? I'm pretty sure that with a water cooling system you can do it, but i'm only 15 and i can't afford that right now. If there is any way to reach that speed with fans, please tell me.

i was thinking of adding a 80mm on the top of my case for a blowhole and a 120mm on the side to blow directly onto my mobo & CPU, could that do any help?

Overclocking is risky. Do it at your own risk.

Nevertheless, the only way your are going to find out how far you can overclock is to try it. Just make sure to monitor your temperatures so as not to "fry" your cpu.

More case fans will definately help.

like Flounder said, more fans will help. And if you can't afford to overclock, then just don't worry about it. I can overclock my CPU almost 400MHz, but I don't because after that first 200MHz I get crappy temperatures and I don't even notice a real increase in performance. So I just keep it turned down. No reason to run the crap out of it unless I really have a reason....then it gets turned back up again. :D

Good luck and don't sweat it. Overclocking is 50% bragging rights.

by the time you buy water cooling system you could have bought
a much faster cpu

if you increase the speed a little at a time, and watch temps, you should be fine. I'm not gonna guarantee anything, but 1 ghz, i'd think should be reachable with good air cooling, or water cooling.

This is a risky hobby but if you take it slow and keep an eye on temps +250 mhz should be a realistic goal providing you got a good cpu. Just to show that a big OC doesn't mean you will fry your machine, I ran a Celeron 566 @ 1020 using 1.9volts (default was 1.5v) for over a year before I sold the system. Cooling was done by an Alpha Pal 6035. Like I said go slow, step up in small increments, and don't run to hot!

I would very well like to keep oc in small incriments but the problem is that the next FSB speed on my mobo is 133 (112 currently)mhz. So that leaves me only with the CPU multiplier. The only problem is, i don't know where on earth i could change it. I looked through my bios x amount of times to no avail. If anybody knows how to change the CPU multiplier of a 750 athlon tbird on a Biostar M7VKB mobo please help me out:p

I downloaded your mobo manual from biostar and to me it looks like you are out of luck. The board has no setting for multiplier, just the fsb. You also have one of the older KT133 boards an I doubt that the board will make a 133fsb actually you may even be a little bit lucky to be running at 112fsb. I think your best bet will be to stay where you are at. The best chance you have is to change the bridges on the cpu itself to adjust the multiplier.

you can change multiplier via bridges

Ken257, how do you propose that i do that, i've heard about connecting the bridges with pencil lead, but how do i know what to connect. Also, is there and alternitive to pencling?:burn:

you can use rear defogger repair paint or a conductive pen.
check out this site for the right bridges (http://www.ocinside.de/index_e.html?/html/workshop/socketa/xp_painting.html)
just don't go to high or won't boot then will have to redo brides.
too bad they don't go over 12.5

I'd put my bucks on hardware a one gig Duron is about 80 to 90 bucks and as I see it that's the cheap way for you to go faster. Ditch the BioStar I have several, get something nice to go with your 1 gig you just bought. Take the 750 and the BS build yourself a test machine. Old cases and fans are easy to find sometimes you can even get them for nothing. Get to that point just be carefull don't kill your only machine.

BTW I use a microscope to connect those bridges and I have good eyesight. How anyone does it with anything else amazes me.

Watercooling isn't a money saving thing, it;s a fun thing! :D
