i have bought a GTX 260 Core 216 (got it from the 113$ dell deal).
anyway i was wondering if i should also buy a new PSU?
ratings look fine i think but can never be safe :].

also, check sig for all the other things hooked to the PSU. (yes i know a sub par rig but, its hitting 2-3 years old)

I'm not so sure I would use that PSU .... The 260 wants 36a on the 12v rail
Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 36 Amp Amps.
your PSU does not have that 12V1@15A,+12V2@16A,
while it will probably work, your really looking for trouble....

kinda what i thought, it would work but would be asking for it.
can also add (2) 250gig sata drives and 1 cd-rom/dvd buner blah blah drive to the list aswell.

I would look into some corsair models that are at least 600 watts to give you some more headroom.

They make good quality PSUs. It depends on your budget but it is worth it to splurge a bit more on a PSU.

Antec Earthwatts
Corsair
PC Power & Cooling
Silverstone
Get one from one of these makers. There are good deals if you shop around.

Aye, same thing happened to me, I bought a GTX 260 and learned my 500W PSU didn't even have the Connections for a real video card. While shopping, the tech pointed out the 12V rails on different PSUs. The corsair had the highest rated 12V rails of all comparable PSUs. TX650 has like 52A while all the other 600's had like 32-37.
That and the fact I power up a Q6600 Clocked @3.6, a good aftermarket cooler and 5 Good case fans, its logical that you want your PSU to be as beefy as possible while staying on budget. Even @650, I leave myself little room for upgrade later. Luckily this is not a SLI Mobo, so I won't have that to contend with. If I did, I would probably need to go up to a 750 or 850.

While I am not gonna disagree with you on the desirability of that PSU, the 260 does NOT need 36A. That is nvidia suggestion for the entire PC. 36Ax12V=432W. There is no 260 on earth that consumes that many watts. Not even half that.

Ayup. I have a 260GTX as well, and I was looking for trouble running it on the most rock solid PSU ever made... because it had a low amperage. It still ran it but that's as LOW as I'd go in terms of quality, etc. But my PSU was good for it under extreme load...

CS you are a we bit off on your watts law. 12v x 36a = 462w which is a over the average loaded 3D power draw
of a pair of 260's by a good margin.

Are you talking about the PCP&C 750 in your sig? That has plenty of Amps on the 12v rail.

The Rosewill Stallion is a Solytech made mediocre unit, from what the folk at jonnyGURU.com say (http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5854) about it (I think on page 2 someone said it was not recommended).

When I click on the links it shows the 850W is $95 AMIR ($30), and the 750W is $100 AMIR ($10). So, if you don't mind MIRs the 850 is actually a better deal, surprisingly.
Of course, Newegg changes their prices by the minute, so it may have changed since your purchase.
Either way the 750W Corsair should be plenty.

You would have been just fine with the 650TX (speaking power only, not price) but a little more headroom doesnt hurt!

Heck I have a new CoolerMaster Real Power Pro RS-850-EMBA power supply for sale in the forums right now for $95.
It is rated 850w continuous at 50C with a 1000w watt max. It is the same PS I use to test all of my modded cards including
fully modded GTX280 SLI pairs. It doesn't even breath hard there lol plus ya can't even hear it's 140mm cooling fan.

Good Choice on the corsair, you wont regret it! 750 or 850 is more than enough for now and it should be good for SLI in the future.

when i went to buy the 850 it was 140$ with 30 MIR = 110$
the 750 is 110$ with a 10 MIR = 100$
just was not taking the chance on the rebate and if this one dont go then its only 10$.
***EDIT***
BTW,
even tho it didnt have a effect on my pick orange > yellow :-p
