So I've got a Dragon Plus mobo, Athlon XP 2000+ with a Thermalright SK-6 solid copper heat sink and 5000 RPM fan. I've modded out my case with lots of fans so that the case temperature hovers around 28-29 degrees C. My mobo comes with a heat sensor and says the CPU is still running around 47-48 degrees C and about 50 with a full load. It seems like my CPU should be running cooler with that, though. I thought the SK-6 was supposed to be the best sink on the market, so I'm a bit perplexed by the high CPU temperature. It might also be worth it to note that I have a digital temperature gauge that i have mounted into a 5 1/4 bay with the sensor near the die on my CPU. That sensor indicates the temperature as only about 45 degrees C. Which do you think is the correct reading? Also, when the heat sink only feels slightly warm to the touch. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

temps can depend on a lot of things...
#1 for starters not every CPU is the same.. some just run a little bit hotter than others
#2 the SK6 is the best 60mm heatsink there are better ones that are bigger... i.e. swiftech MCX462 & Alpha 8045
#3 Ambeint temps have a lot to do with everything... 28C is like 82.5 F that is kinda warm for the inside of the case.
as for the thermomitors... its real hard to say which is more accurate.... but i would go with the one next to the CPU..
another thing heat sinks REALLY REALLY benifit from a good lapping
my temps were like 52 under load.. @ 1500mhz
after lapping they are 46C under load @1650mhz
so lapping really does do a number on your temps
one last thing... copper heat sinks like the SK6 and the global win CAK38 need a strong fan
i'm not sure if your 5000 rpm fan is pumping out the air that the SK6 wants.
copper retains heat more than alumminum does.. that means it absorbs heat better off of the CPU but also retains more..
that is why a real strong fan is needed with copper heat sinks.
look into a delta black label 60x60x25(38cfm) or a delta 60x60x38(50cfm)
those fans will really boost your performance

i didn't notice you said the heat sink is only slighty warm..
make sure that your heat sink is seated right on the processor
and only apply are REALLY thin layer of artic silver II
that should help transfer heat better to the heat sink
