Hi,
I am about to build a pc and was wondering if anyone had any comments to make on the compatability of this system and if i was missing anything before i can build it.
I appreciate the help
athlon xp 1900+ (retail)
soyo dragon plus mobo (retail)
radeon 8500 II video (retail)
Antec 1030 case 300w
512mb kingston ddr ram
soundblaster audigy (oem)
Toshiba dvd (oem)
cooler master DP5-6I31C-A1 heatsink
PANASONIC 1.44 MB 3.5 floppy
Win xp (oem)
2 x SEAGATE - 60GB HD 7200 rpm
This should be posted in general hardware, but since your new this is OK! :D The mod will eventually move it.
AMD Athlon 1900+
>Great although I've read somewhere the 1500 and the 1600 were better overclock and clock easier to AMD 2000+ easily.
Soyo Dragon+
>Good, absolutely good. But I'd consider a Shuttle AK31 or Epox 8KHA+ since they're very good boards for the AMD.
Radeon 8500
> Gotta love that card, although OEM seems to be a better choice as its much cheaper and no difference from retail except a minor clock/mem speed.
Antec Case + 300watt
Good case, although you should get a better PSU since 300watt are a little low if you want to run those two Seagate drives or big drives. Consider a 400-450watt Antec.
512 Kingston Ram:
I'm not too farmiliar with Kingston but I heard their good. Although what do you need 512ram for? The ram prices are going up again and if its not necessary to get 512ram, get 256 and wait for them to lower.
Soundblaster Audigy OEM
> Good card but I'd get something like Santa Cruz or Hercules Game Theater XP to save some frustration w/ the Via chipset on your motherboard.
Toshiba DVD
> Good brand
Cooler Master:
>I'm not too farmiliar with CoolerMaster series but the only series I know good is the heatpipe and I'm certain that is not the series. Get the heatpipe coolermaster or the Millennium Glaciator
Win XP:
Cool but if you downgrade to 256 I'd go Win2K as Win XP hogs more ram.
2x Seagate 60Gig.
Why would you need so much? You'll probably encounter problems if your using those big drives with the 300watt.
You should add airflow (Case fans) if you plan to overclock.

WinXP doesn't really hog more RAM if you shut off all the ghey extra features.
About the HDs. Why not have so much? I could fill them up in a week. :D

id say its gonna be a sweet system
i see only 2 small weak spots
the 300 wt psu
the coolermaster sink
itll work with those two but overclocking will be limited.
might even do it as a upgrade down the road later. or now and tweak it till the case begs for more oxygen.

From your comments i think i mightg switch to the shuttle ak31 mobo because of the price. around $50 cheaper. Ill also switch to a sx840 case with 400w power supply, 8500 radeon oem and a different heat sink. Thanks for all the advice. Ill probably go to a 20 and a 60 gig hd. the 20 for my system files and important programs, and the 60 for the games. again thanks for the advice. i have been lurking here for a month without posting trying to absorb as much info as possible.

Good pick, don't forget to buy anti-static wrist straps while in the process of building the computer may come handy.

Bah! I've never used an anti-static strip and I've never killed anything. In the last month I've had my hands in over 50 different computers.

Yeah, up the power supply to 400 Watts, at least(for those beasty hard drives), and I would go for Maxtor instead of Seagate...I have two of the 40 Gigers, and they're awesome. Really quiet and quick, too. My best friend got two 60s(he's a film editor, so he needs the space), and he loves them, too. Better to get two large ones than one huge one, I think, also...at least since the Dragon has RAID...

Just not everyone has that luck :D
I speak from experience. Sometimes they forget their on carpet while working with the computer and zap there goes lots of money and lots of more hassle

Get an Iwill XP333-R from mwave.com. They're THE best...

2.8v vdimm
2.035 vcore
tons of space on socket
clean layout
highpoint RAID
sb-live quality onboard sound!
No PCI latency problem like Via boards
Faster than KT266A and none of the misc. problems

These are just a few of the major good features :). Also guaranteed to 166fsb by Iwill since it's "DDR 333".
