My most noob question in a long time!
I am sick and tired of physically switching jacks when I want to go from speakers to heaphones so I would like to use the front panel jacks on my case to make it easier. I have the wire from the front of the case plugged into my sound card but I dont hear anything, nor does the mic work on my head set (Altec Lansing something or other).
How do I make this work? Do I use AC97 or HD Audio part? I have settings in the Sound card's control panel to disable speakers when headphones are plugged in, thats all I can see. HELP!
PS - I did search "front panel audio" and there were zero replies and the replies that I did see were not helpful.

Are you trying to use the jacks on your case? Or did your sound card come with a breakut box front panel thing that you mounted in a 5.25" bay that you're trying to use?

Sorry, the front panel jacks on the Antec 1200.

What did you plug the wires into? The sound headers on your motherboard? These will only work if you're using the integrated audio.

No, the sound header on the sound card (I said that! :)). Onboard is disabled.
The one in the back middle on this picture. Its the proper header I believe. Its the only one that will fit in there.

Are those labeled as such? I have the platinum, and those pins are for the breakout box, which is the thing on the right in this picture:

As far as I know, this isn't suppored out of the box. The smaller 2 row connector at the left of the card in your picture is what you need to use. Check out this link, you need to custom make a cable:

Or, you can buy the input box from creative as an upgrade.
Hope this helps.

I appreciate you help! :)
I cant see the picture at work (damn websense) but I would bet Im using it as the front panel plug fits right into what you described perfectly. Im saying its plugged in correct. Im using the one on the left, the 2 row 4/5 pin header, not the 2 row big header to the right. I will verify when I get home shortly though.
It should be as easy as plugging that in, not making a custom cord thats what the case cord is for.
I use one of these to switch back and fourth.
If you can find one its a great device.

So wait....according to that I need to use that 10x2row pin thing for front audio???????? That is just asanine to me!!!!
Another custom made cable from Performance-PCs.com! We solve the dilema on how to hook up your computer cases front ports to the extremely popular X-Fi and Audigy Sound cards. This cable will plug in directly to your sound card and provide 24" of cable to a male AC-97 header end that you can easily plug into your cases front audio ports. Now you dont have to buy the Creative Labs Platinum series to use your case's front audio ports using this slick new cable!

Yeah you plug the one end of the cable to your card right at the top and then plug the other end of the cable in to the cases AC-97 cable done!!!!!!!Easy as pie.I can switch back and fourth between speakers and headphones no problem. It was worth it for me

That's correct. When you see the pic I posted later, it shows how to make that cable for cheap.
