Anyone else getting the AVG pop-up to upgrade? This pops up in it's own window in the middle of the screen. Just started getting this recently. Is there a way to disable this?
Appreciate any input.

I have the free version on all of my machines (6) and do not get the update window. None of my clients who have it have complained to me either. Make sure that you are running the newest version. 8.5.x and not 8.0 or 7.5.

Either rename w/ a *.bak extension, or delete the following two files from the AVG directory (substitute "\AVG8" w/ whatever version you have installed)...
C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgmwdef_us.mht
C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgresf.dll

Interesting... the files I no longer have either of the named files but a .mht is back in my folder and the pop up still comes up.
Found this which should hopefully do the trick to remove this:
The popup is an HTML file with associated images, stored in Program Files\AVG\AVG8\Notifications with other files that AVG actually needs to function.
I just did the following:
--Navigate to that folder, and set the view to Details, and sort by Date Modified.
--Create a new subfolder; I called mine "AVG popup ad"
--Copy all the files modified July 17th into that new folder.
Notice that, in the ad and in the file names, "opportunity" is spelled wrong... giving it that "Russian malware" look and feel!

Mine were dated 7/18.

Any similar fix with Avira ?

there is a fix with avira (i'm very tired or i'd do the googling myself and give ya the link), but it involves changing permissions and doing some administrative things to the pc that you can't do if you are on XP Home (doesn't have the necessary admin tools), but can do on XP Pro. Not sure about vista or windows 7 as i haven't tried it on either and have only fiddled with avira once.

Mine were dated 7/18.
Mine were also. It was funny to see that the file names were also misspelled (oportunity).
We'll see if this'll work.

98MEI have 2 computers with the popup problem. My older computer is an old Toshiba laptop running Win98ME with AVG 7.5. A popup wants me to upgrade to version 8. AVG free Ver 8 does not work with ME. How can I turn this off? This thing pops up several times a day. I have no AVG subdirectory under "program files".
My desktop is running XP. This popup comes up randomly. It's very annoying and I'd like to knock it out.
