a computer we were working on at school has some big problems, first it would start to boot but make two long beeps now when you try to turn it on the power comes on than shuts off. what could be the problem?
Aaah. The cryptic boot beeps.
The code will mean something. Certain beeps mean bad vcard, bad memory, no CPU etc. FInd out what two beeps mean from the mobo manual/internet.
What do you mean 'working on' - what adjustments have you made to the system?

Might help you with your beep code problem. Look up your bios in the list and see what the error code means.

i don't know much about the computer unfortunatly. what we did is take it apart and put it back together and when we got it back together it did the beep thing than the teacher worked on it for a day and when we came back in he had us put it in a different case with his help (so we know it is hooked up right) and when we hit the power button the PSU came on for a couple seconds and than shut down. to try to trouble shoot we took everything but the mobo PSU and floppy drive out (even the video card) and it still did the same thing. my guess is a bad BIOS or mobo or possibly a bad CPU (never fried a cpu before so i do not know exactly what happens)
Well start narrowing down stuff. If you can get a test cpu test the ram etc. Try resetting the bios if that helps but most likely not.

unless its onboard graphics then u need a graphics card to do anything, and the beeps prolly mean no graphics card, but check that guys link.
