so we had a transformer blow at work the other day that fried two old computer so i rebuilt them completely only re-using the cases.
specs are: amd x2 7850, gigabyte board, 2gb ddr2, 500gb HD, 430w thermaltake
i got one machine all set up and working dandy on the network. the second one however iv installed vista on once and xp a few times and cant get the thing on the darn network! i figured maybe the network jack was bad behind this pc so i bought a switch and hooked it behind a different pc, ran the network cable to it and the same dang problem came up! its driving me crazy and i cant figure it out lol.

currently the machine has xp sp3 on it

The ethernet on the computer might be toasted, do you have a PCI network card you can toss in to see if it works?

After the nvidia nic on both my DFI ultra boards died I went on ebay and bought 10 3com 10/100 cards just in case :)

Surprisingly, I have used half of them already in other machines. Onboard nics seem to not last very long..
