I bought a Sony Optiarc 7240S SATA
I installed it in the case, connected the power and SATA cables and booted the computer - no DVD drive in explorer.
At boot up, I can see the drive being recognized, I also see the drive in the BIOS.
the drive has power and I can open and close the door and the green light on it goes on and off when I do so.

I run Vista/64 with Service pack 1

any ideas?

never mind, found the problem.
I connected the cable to a different SATA port and now vista sees it.
