This thing any good? Just saw it referenced in the RF:G Zero Punctuation review so I went back and watched the SR2 one, and it actually sounded good. GTA4 bored me to the point that I spent about 8 hours total on it, compared to probably 500+ hours on GTA:SA.

It's only $18 on Newegg now, $30 on Steam. If it goes up for one of those weekend sales it'd be a no brainer but till then.. Worth it? Hows the port job?

Its great fun... completely silly... but the driving is very... ermmm... crap? It feels like an arcade game from 10 years ago... altho running about and shooting folk is fun!!

Personally i got bored of it after a few hours and have never played it since....

I've heard people say it's better than GTA4.

Having beaten GTA4 and enjoyed it thoroughly, I watch videos of Saint's Row and I don't get it.

I'd watch Yahtzee's review of it here (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/312-Saints-Row-2), it's a fairly accurate summary of the differences between the two. Personally I like both, ironically GTA IV for mucking around in the open world and Saint's Row 2 for the story, which is stupid but EPIC - the cutscenes are awesome.

I've read that the PC port is horrendously bugged?

Meh... still worth it.

The CONSOLE ORIGINAL was horrendously bugged! How would you know the difference?

What I can tell you is, it has the best co-op mode that I have ever seen in any game.

PERIOD.

Every single aspect of the game has been thought out to be played with two players... right down to the mini games.

It's also hilarious.

More than that: Unlike Rockstar, who really just played it safe with GTAIV... the people who made Saints Row 2 actually TRIED to take things as far as they would possibly go. (GTA IV was three steps behind even GTA: III.)

It won't look prettier. But if you play it all the way through from beginning to end... you'll be glad you did.

Even though I have the 360 version, I too thought it was TONS better than GTA4.

I just beat the game with a buddy and there were parts of the game that didn't work. Setting aside bugs I encountered, i give the game 8 oot of 10.

I believe there was a mission at a warehouse where pierce and shaundi load the truck. You had to kill shaundi and keep her dead while the cut scene goes to the next part of the mission to get it to work, otherwise she just disappears and you have to fail the mission. This was a known issue in the console and they ported the same issue over to PC?

Other then that, just minor things that bug the crap out of me. Getting into a vehicle and your stuck in them, falling through the map, etc... Just go to the steam forums for SR2 and you'll see all the mayhem.

I really loved Saints Row 2 on the 360. I have been thinking about getting it on the PC since I sold my 360 a few months ago. Was absolutely insane, but a bucket full of fun. That and no cousins calling you...

Damn, wish I had grabbed it for $5 or whatever that sale was recently.

Picked it up a while ago as part of a package deal. Holy croly, it's so much more fun than GTA4.. Looks great, runs smooth at 1920x1200 fully maxed including AA on rig in sig. Dunno how this one got such a bad rap for being a bad port, it's everything GTA4 shoulda been. No driving around picking up your cousin for dates, or any of that other boring crap.

That's what I keep saying but people just write it off and don't believe it because their brains have been conditioned to think that GTA=unbeatable. I thought GTA4 blew. The storyline sucks, Nikko is wishy washy and says one thing and then does another, the graphics aren't that good. I just got the add on packs and so far the Gay Tony pack is better than Nikko's crap.

I agree apart from the graphics aspect. SR2 looks worse than SR1 in many respects, but at least Volition managed to get a glass effect in the 2nd game. GTA IV on very high settings on PC looks amazing, I just wished the engine was put to better use.

IMO, GTA IV's city, graphics, atmosphere and sound matched with SR2's story and attitude would be perfect.

The graphics are crap and it runs poorly, but the game is pretty fun. Overall I still like GTA IV better though.

The GTA4 bit is subjective, but I heartily disagree on the runs poorly and looks like crap bits. It looks great for what it is, an arcadey sandbox game. If my going-on-2-years-old dual core and single GPU can run it maxed at 1920x1200, I don't think it's fair to say the game runs poorly.

edit: Anyone know how to take screenshots? Prt Scrn isn't working..

One of my favorite games this gen.

I love GTA for free roam with friends. You can do some awesome stuff.

I love SR2 for everything else. I loved the over the top story, I loved the much wider variety of weapons, and to me it just played and flowed much better.

Saints Row 2 on GTA IV's engine = endgame to all games.

I think I'm the only person on the planet who didn't really play GTA3, VC, or SA. However, I imagine SR2 was more of a successor to those games than GTA IV was. It was just so much fun, so silly, and crazy. The action was fast and out of this world. Planes, helicopters, jet skis, boats, et cetera... this game has everything. It pains me when people pass it off because it looks "stupid" or "gay", or GTA is better. This game truly is a gem.

Dang, I didn't remember I loved this game so much. I might just go play it now.

I don't know what you did to get it to run right, but I would get maybe 20 fps on several computers. Maybe they've fixed the performance issues because I played it when it first came out. Still doesn't look good though.
