Hi

First of all, my english is not 100 % ok but I'll try my best. ;)

Is it possible to overclock a cpu iff you have 4 memory sticks?

Because here it doesn't work at all.

CPU: Q6600 ( 266 x 9 )
Memoy: G.Skill 4 x 2 Gig DDR2 800 (5-5-5-15) Specifications (http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view.php?id=g_ddr2&page=2&sn1=&divpage=1&category=3&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=95)

I tried this first because when I had 4 gig the first time this works like a sharm.

CPU Clock Ratio = 7
CPU Host Frequency = 400
SPD = 2.00
Memory Frequency 800 = 800

= 2800 Mhz

But now with 8 gig of memory it won't boot, well yeah it boot but then pc shut's down, and everything is back on standard.

I tried also 333 x 8 or 9 but nothing happens. Won't boot at all.

I hope it's for some pleople audible.

Greetings

:welcome: to the forums.

Yes, its possible to OC with 4 dimms, but sometimes you wont get as high an OC as with 2 dimms or wont be able to OC at all..

Boost the northbridge voltage (MCH-memory control hub). Using 4 dimms creates more MCH strain. Also post your system components for us to see, not just RAM.

Read through this guide as well, should help..

ok

So I think it wont work at all.

Maybe it's better to change my memory to 2 x 4 Gig DDR2 800. Higher than 800 I wont go like 1066 or 1200 because then you have to change voltage and stuff like that.

Playing with voltage is for me dangerous because years ago my Athlon 750 Thunderbird died because off to much voltage. :p

my system:

Q6600 @ 2400 Mhz (266 x 9) (CPU Stepping: G0)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
Scythe Mugen SCINF-1000 CPU cooler with 2 x 120 mm fans
G.Skill 4 x 2 Gig DDR 800 @ 5-5-5-15 T2
POV GTX 285 EXO
WD Raptor 150 Gig (OS Windows 7 x64)
WD 500 Gig + WD 1 TB intern
Nec DVD Writer
Antec 500 Watt powersuply

This all in an Antec Nine Hundred Two case

Put your MCH at 1.4v and your RAM at 1.9v and try again.

Ok what i just did:

MCH + 0.1 V & RAM + 0.1, system boots now @ 400 FSB x 7 MP.

Any good programs to check the voltages?

I use Everest (is good for temps) but I can't check MCH.

For most apps running DDR2-800 at 4-4-4-12 (that gskill should do that just fine at 1.9-2.0v) is faster than ddr2-1066 at 5-5-5-15, so just use the 4 sticks and run at 800mhz

Not on Intel systms. Intel likes faster speed. AMD likes tighter timings.

Oh interesting. Been using AMD exclusively since my tbird, I skipped the Phenom 1 generation and used by X2 brisbane till Phenom 2 came out tho. Aside from that brief stint when AMD could not compete with intel, amd has always offered a better value when it came time to upgrade =)
