I just upgraded from my P5N-E SLI, and received the UD3P from RMA today (1st was DoA).

Once I got into Windows, I restarted and went into the BIOS to set a few things manually. There are so many more settings than the P5N-E...not sure what many of them are yet...

When I got into Windows again after my very few manual changes, I restarted again to start testing max FSB. So, I changed my BIOS to the following:

Code:

I was going for 2.4GHz (6x400), with a 1.25 vCore and NB on auto (I'm not sure what setting is NB voltage, I'm assuming MCH is NB since ICH has to be SB for ICH10R...).

Anyways, I cannot POST, much less boot. All that happens is it resets 1 or 2 times, and finally loads with Fail-Safe Defaults, the backup BIOS, or something @ 2.0GHz (6x333).

I'm sure there's something simple I'm missing in this plethora of settings...

Thanks.

what cpu are you running? i got a e8400 on the same board and am starting to overclock and have overclocked my cpu to 3.15 which aint alot but its a start, i wish you luck and will be watching :)

I have the same as you, an E8400 E0. On my P5N-E, I got this chip to 3.960GHz (9x440) which was the FSB wall of my 650i mobo...

I'm really hoping to get into the 4.0GHz-4.5GHz range :)

Wouldn't be surprised if the wrong RAM to FSB divider is being used. (where the RAM is way higher than the FSB)

Underclock the RAM, save the BIOS changes, exit and then try again.
I had to do that with my Asus P5QL Pro to get it to POST at anything beyond 2.1 Ghz. And found out my RAM frequency was being set to too high.

It's likely that when you select "1066" then raise the FSB, that the motherboard is pulling a fast one, by raising the DRAM clock, too.

The workaround is the following:

1: Lower the DRAM clock.

2: Save and exit.

3: Then go back into the BIOS to raise the FSB.

->In that exact order!

I thought of that too and decided to try a 1:1 ratio, but I'm confused on how to even change the RAM Frequency...

You can't just change "Memory Frequency [1066]" directly, you have to mix "(G) MCH Frequency Latch [Auto]" and "System Memory Multiplier [Auto]" settings to try to get whatever RAM speed you need. I don't fully understand it, just a lot of trial and error it seems...

Still messin around with BIOS settings...

I've kinda figured out changing the RAM speed. To get the RAM to run at 800MHz (for 1:1 ratio), I had to set "(G) MCH Frequency Latch [400]" & "System Memory Multipler [2.00B]" which makes sense, I guess, 400*2=800. I don't understand the letters though (A, B, C, D). Also, with the "latch" and "multiplier" system it seems like it will be hard to get more precise RAM speeds like 521 (1042) for example. I haven't really tried much yet though, so I could be completely wrong.

Anyways, I got my computer to boot into windows with these settings for a 400FSB. I'm gonna keep messin around trying to learn what all these alien settings do, the best way to learn is hands-on.
