View Full Version : blew up mcp350 :(

my mcp350/lang ddc-1T blew up, I had an OCLabs top on it:

this top cracked and filled the pump with water..

the inside is completely corroded and the magic smoke came out (after failing to run and boiling my waterloop, lucky for auto-shutdown-on-overheat)

anyway, I tought you might want to know, I could post pics, but theres not much to see except for a bunch of green gunk inside.
Pump was 2 months old, and I guess I'll have to RMA it. (if possible)

I'm currently at a big 11 day lanparty with 1000's of people, (campzone.nl) and luckily the guy sitting next to me gave me his spare pump (ddc-1t+ with a different top) so now I can still play games, but having (new) hardware fail sucks :bang head

wow that really sucks. sorry to hear.

you should take that up with ocLabs, not swiftech, or who ever you got the pump from.

That does suck. Sorry to hear a perfectly good pump ruined by that top. I'd be having a long conversation with OCLabs and then replacing it with a much more solid XSPC top. That OCLabs top looks awfully thin.

Thanks for the oclabs-top warning.

The XSPC ones are top notch, right? I'm about to order a few and seem to recall some "cracking" warnings as well... probably from overtightening barbs though.

XSPC is very good. The restop one is tops in tests. Here is linky to 11 tops comparison.

the OClabs top did come out on top of some benchmark of the best ddc tops (only beat by the xspc ones), waterflow/pressure-wise, but as with pretty much every acrylic watercooling part, its prone to cracking :(
I'll see if I can contact OClabs.

swap it for the feeling of a bust high end GPU any day #Chuckles#

or a high end CPU come to think of it :-/

yep its not good but it could have sprayed everywhere or something exciting (and expensive)
