View Full Version : Racing helmet delivery possibly stolen? (Fedex carrier)

This is basically a rant about what happened Friday morning so be prepared for a long, sort of confusing story; so here it goes.

I ordered a Simpson racing helmet from saferacer.com last week and received the tracking Fedex tracking information promptly the next day when it was shipped out. So 4-5 days later (this is Fedex ground) shipping from Missouri to California it was 'delivered' around 11ish on Friday when i was still sleeping. So when i woke up, i checked the tracking and noticed it was 'delivered.' I went out of the house to look for it, NOTHING. No notice left on the doorway and not even a notice in the mailbox either. Check the backyard too, NOTHING. So i call the number given for Fedex Ground help on the same website that has the tracking information it and the guy says that he'll send a notice to the station or something and that i would get a call back the same day later. So all this happened within an hour before i headed out to work (luckily i started at 2PM). But the whole day i was at work, no call or anything from Fedex at all, let alone voicemail or whatever. I already emailed saferacer also that same morning i woke up and the response was,

"Thomas

I do apologize for this. I just called FedEx and spoke with them about this matter. I started a trace on your package which means that FedEx will contact the driver that had you package. They will find out exactly where he delivered you package to. They will get back with me in 24-48 hours and once I hear from them about it I will let you know. If you would like to check back with me around Wednesday of next week I should have a better answer for you. Sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused you. "

So the question is did someone steal my package, i.e. the driver, or possibly someone that just walked by the neighborhood and saw a package sitting on the porch? I'm not even sure who i should be mad at more, saferacer.com or Fedex because i don't see why saferacer.com wouldn't use signature confirmation on a $350+ helmet. Sigh... :bang head

Could have possibly been stolen, or the delivery guy just sent it to the wrong address. It's happened to me a couple of times with UPS, where they delivered it to an address a couple blocks away that wasn't even close to the same street name or number.

I'd say just be a bit more patient. Stuff like this happens on occasion, but if things don't get settled in your favor soon.. Start raising some hell. :P Both Fedex and saferacer should be helping you out. I don't remember misplaced packages taking so long to settle. Probably a couple days at most since it's not a huge shipment.

DHL delivered my PC case to the house next door - which had been repo'd and was up for auction by the bank btw. You would think the DHL guy would have noticed the padlocked front door. I found it by accident a few days after they claimed it was delivered (and refused to help me any further) sitting on the porch.

i ordered a video camera on ebay once and it was delivered by DHL they said that it was anyway to my girlfriends parents house which it was supposed to be, but for about a month after christmas(it was supposed to be a xmas present) we never knew what happend and DHL kept giving us the run around and then about a month or 2 after, my girlfriends mom saw a package at a house that didnt have anyone living there, so she went to the post office and asked if they could get someone to check to see if that was it and sure enough it was, im surprised no one else saw it and stole it

even if they ask for a signature, UPS.FedEX or DHL is not required to get it, we used them all for our work to send out important packages and even if you ask for that service they had a little disclaimer basically saying they didnt have to get a signature.

Any luck getting it? I would check with the neighbors. Is anybody out of town and wouldn't noticed a package addressed to you sitting on their porch?

FedEx called me this afternoon telling me that they could not locate the package either. So they suggested that i would have to ask the company i bought the item from to ship another one out. So at the moment, i guess my only way to get my helmet is to call up saferacer.com and tell them to resend the item. I really hope they do resend it free of charge because all of this was none of my fault. It was either Fedex or some punk kid who saw a package standing alone and just decided to take it. I''m really ****ed about this so far but hopefully i will get my helmet by the 21st because that's when i'm going to the track. Wish me luck!

I'm sorry, but if I know a package is going to be delivered, I'm going to make sure I'm awake around 8-9am just because it should be common sense that not everyone is honest and if something is left on a door step there's a good chance it could be stolen. Or if you work third shifts, leave a note for the fed-ex guy to leave it in a certain area that's hidden from view.

Well most of the time when a company uses Fedex to ship their stuff, i usually had to sign for it. If not, i would just drive to the package center or whatever and pick it up in person (which i actually prefer for such expensive items).

I agree. I believe there are a few shipping companies that will with-hold the package unless signed for if the contents are worth over said amount. I am just hoping my sister's computer parts come in before I start double sessions so I can get them.

It's great that you have so few responsibilities in life that you have the time to do this. Kudos to you.

Going to send saferacer another email to see what the status is from Fedex. On the other hand, i've already gone to a local shop 40 miles away to buy a helmet for the even this weekend. I guess i'll have 2 helmets to choose from in the future.

Fedex said to me i'd have to call Saferacer to send another helmet out. So i contacted Saferacer and they said that they would have to file a missing package claim or some sort before they would be able to send another package out.

ya they should of done this 48 hours after you put a tracer on the package. what a bunch of d-bags.

We use fedex and once in a while some a hole will take a package. We put a claim in ASAP and most of the time ship a new package out within 48 hours of the problem.
Any order for us 500 or more or if its an apt then we put a sig on it. what sucks is if the package is 500 buck we insure it, thats 5 extra bucks for us to ship it, and we have to put a sig on it. thats a extra dollar or 2. so if you shipping out 40-80 packages a day thats a lot of flipping money over time. Thats why im sure the did not put a sig on it. to much money its just a risk you have to play

did you ever have them put in a claim or did you just go right to your CC company?

They denied my claim based on the information they received from Fedex. So i had no chance but to go to the CC company after.

Damn, how is the CC company treating you? I absolutely hate FedeX. USPS and UPS never have a problem, but FedEx always messed my order up. The worst was when they delivered my ps3 bundle to some house like 5 blocks away. From what I understand in USPS and UPS, the drivers are employees of the company. But in FedEx, they are outsourced contractors with no supervision. FedEx does this so they dont have to pay health insurance, taxes, etc. According to this article, "Their pay is based on the number of packages they handle and their customers’ satisfaction" ... so maybe complaining might help: http://www.workforce.com/section/06/feature/23/90/25/index.html

I just want to say that it sucks that SafeRacer didn't help you out. I have always had good experiences with them. Whenever I need rotors for my miata's I get them form there. Free shipping on all orders over 100$ makes it a great place to get heavy things from.
