Well i just joined and set up the client on my moms machine.
C633@800
I have couple of questions.
1.
That machine is on dial-up,how will i report my work to the server?
2.
When i click on configuration the only window i can see is that one with the name and team stuff. Is there some more configuration or thats it?
3.
I've heard ppl talkin about some console and logon thing, what exactly is console doin how can i start it up and where am i supposed to logon and when?
4.
If i need to reboot is it safe to do so while foldin, will it remember my current score or not?
I know those are stupid questions to you foldin expertz but i am newbie to this
thx

Update:
i've read this @ stanford site folding FAQ:
I have a modem, can I use Folding@home?

Yes. It can be configured to dial up automatically, or wait until you connect. There may be some problems with modems and the screen saver version. If you are experiencing any, please use the console version of Folding@Home.

But where the heck can i configure it ti call automatically or to report when i connect(i would like this second one better)

I am assuming that you installed the standard gui version of the client. When the console is refered to in here we generally mean that "no nonsense text only" version despite the fact that stanford uses the name console for the gui version. Use whatever version is best for you although it's good to have a copy of the text based client in your Folding@Home directory. It can be found at the stanford site.

With the gui version what you described is the configuration. That's pretty much it. There should be a check box to tell the client to ask before connecting. I don't know if it will report before it connects any other way. Otherwise it is supposed to connect automatically as long as your dial up is set to connect automatically too. I don't have dialup anymore so I can't offer any experience with dial up. There are a couple of threads about it and KentuckyFriedBird wrote a batch file to assist in sending work units should they fail to send automatically in a recent thread.

It should be safe to reboot while folding. I do it from time to time and haven't had a problem in a while. It is possible to lose work that way, but it's also possible to lose work from simply shutting down the client. They fixed this problem for the most part, but I think it's still possible.

Yes Ploaf i'm usin the normal GUI version of the client. And my mothers OS is also XP.
But u 've mentioned that there should b some check box @config screen to connect auto or ask.But i can't find it.There are only Name,Team and firewall thingies..
What if it finishes its work and wants to connect and i'm sleepin LOL will it save the work and report immediately after i connect to the internet next time or will it start again end $(r3w my work LOL

update :
Is this refering to the connecting to the internet:
Ask before using network?

That's the one. :D

If you set it to ask it should ask and sit there and wait. The work will be saved for sending when it is finished.

Here is a thread on getting the client to autodial in win2k which should be pretty much the same as XP -
http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53182&highlight=dial+up

Also, we have been working on a FAQ thread and there is some info in there about autodialing, not sure how much though, and some Q & A about the client in general -

As for anything else with a dial up connection I'm afraid I can't be much help, but there will be someone in here today that should be able to help out with the rest of it.
