Hello everyone,

I'm sure this has been posted before, however, I am unsure of how to check a stick of ram's compatibility with my motherboard. I've been over to crucial's ram scanner, but the selection of ram is not gigantic. I was wondering if you could recommend a few sticks of ram for me. I just upgraded my CPU this week from a phenom quad core 9550 2.6 Ghz (Oc'd) to a Phenom II 720 tri-core and am looking to get as much performance as I can by getting more ram. I understand that I am limited to DDR2 at the moment as well.

I currently have 3 sticks on my Mobo, which is an Asus m2n-Sli32 Deluxe (2x 1 gig sticks, and 1x 2 gig stick) (Sorry, I am not at the actual computer so I don't have the specific ram info with me.) I also have one slot available

Can you reccommend any ram for me? And furthermore, do you know how I can find out which ram will work for me? I'm very good with computers in general, especially processors and GPU's, but I know next to nothing when it comes to RAM and Motherboards.

Regards,

Dave

I got a couple of those, they're intense!
Don't know if they'll work with your motherboard though.

try and stick with a recognised brand
ocz
corsair
crucial
kingston
g-skill
Geil
and a few more...

remember lower timings are better, and a higher frequency is better and lower voltage is better ( if you are oc'ing)
i would stay with 800mhz, and timings lower that cl7

Get 2x2gb DDR2 1066 ram at 5-5-5-15 and you should be just fine. Check your mobo mfg website for compatibility.

Just noticed you said you have 3 sticks in your motherboard totaling 5gb. Loose one of the sticks and performance should go up. Amd platforms use memory in pairs, and a odd number can cause a unbalanced load on the memory controller and poor performance. Keep a matching pair, who knows you may be fine with memory you have now just take out the oddball stick.

Also I have same processor as yours. You are limited to 2 sticks of 1066 or higher, or 4 sticks of 800 mhz. Best to keep the 2x2 gb if they are 1066 with decent timings (cas 5) or 800 mhz with decent timings (cas 4). If you want a total of 8gb and the memory is already 800, just buy a matching pair of 800, if not replace them with 1066 or higher (like the OCZ low voltage suggested earlier)
