View Full Version : GTA IV installation, Windows 7 x64

Hi everyone. I wanted to try GTA IV with the new Nvidia drivers since lots of FPS fixes were made, so maybe i could play withaut low FPS, but when installing the game at the start getting this error:
Catastrophic Failure, content: Grand Theft Auto 4. Oh, and i'v tryed installing GTAIV by settings compatibility mode on setupp.exe, since when you'r trying to install it from autorun.exe it won't even let you install telling you that the system is incompatible with gta4.

Give me 10 minutes and i will try to install it on mine... iv got the game just havnt installed it on my new rig yet, and yes i have win7 x64

Edit: I get no errors... im installing as i type...

Edit No.2: Well it installed fine... went to play it, and just as it was about to start... BAM!! Fatal Error... doesnt work with compatiability mode... guess just have to wait for a patch!!

Well, there is patch 1.4.0. Anyways, i don't know what's wrong then... :/ Anyone else? :/

I can't even install it. How can i try it? I'm just guessing maybe it would fix that error you'r getting. Well, let's get back to my error. Did you used any compatibility mode when installing it? Is your UAC on? At which level?

Whoops sorry... forgot you cant install it

I didnt run compatability mode to install it, it worked fine... and UAC is OFF coz i HATE it...

Im downloading the patch now so i will let you know...

It seems Cryostasis is suffering from the same problem, god dammit i want to play that game too!!

Well, right now downloading Visual Studio from Microsoft, so can't restart my PC. ~2 hours left.

The patch has solved the problem for me... it works fine now, but i dont know how you will get it to install... sorry!!

I dont like hearing this stuff.I am gonna buy the game so I can see how it runs on my rig but it seems like more so then not bad things keep popping up about this game on pc.

^^^ this is one of the only threads i have heard about install issues, dont be scared cause of 1 post vs likely thousands of installs with out issues, if i get time this week i will reinstall the game.


Are you installing it from disk? any scratches? turn off any AV / spyware apps? turn off UAC ?

Okay, installed XP and now again 7. And still cannot install the GTA (tryed on XP), same error. I guess Stup.exe could possibly be damaged. Maybe someone can upload it? I don't want those virus full torrents and plus i have slow internet.

I just went and bought the game so I will try to install it on my win 7 ultimate and see what happens.I hope all goes well so I can play the game and see it look alot better then xbox 360

Bman123, can you please upload your setup.exe, the file from your DVD1 which is installing GTAIV? I guess mine's f... up. You could use rapidshare.com or something.

Well I got the game installed and running with no problems at all on win 7 ultimate 64bit

I however cannot say that I like the game.It has a problem with textures and with shadows.I got extremely good framerates so that is not a factor on my view on the game.
It just seems blocky and buggy.Never saw the bad shadows on the 360 or the texture probs on there either.I doubt if I can get over this problem as it should not be a problem in game

Just install 1.4 patch. Well, i guess i need to use those virused torrents for setup.exe. Anyways.
