After reading all the reviews on the new Artic Silver 3, I'm going to pick up a tube, lap all my heatsinks, and spread some love on them. :D
But I really want to see what this new silver will do. I have a Abit BE6 board which has a temp probe on a wire. This worked fine for my old Celeron heatsink which had a small notch cut into the base which let it sit right next to the cpu core for fairly accurate temp readings.
However, my P3 slot 1 heatsink I currently have (its a Vantec but I forgot the exact model) doesn't have any kind of slot or notch to fit a enternal probe. The heatsink came already with AS1 on it and I just added a glob of silicon heat sink compound (the type used in electronics) next to the cpu core. That glob holds the probe as close to the core as it can be and I believe that the temps are as close to actual as can be.
But since I'm taking the Vantec off I wanna mount the probe to get an accurate reading, but I'm drawing a blank as to what to do.
I have a dremel and a drill, but thats it. I have no access or friends to machining equipment, so I'm only able to do modfications to the heat sink with my drill or dremel. Any suggestions? Or is my glob of hs silicon good enough since it pratically lets the probe rest directly on the side of the core?
