Check your Verizon FIOS BILL!

Just took a look at my verizon fios bill today, they charged me 57.99 and its 49.99 normally. im going to call them and get to the bottom of it when they are open tomorrow morning. ALSO check to see what service plans are available in your area. I have had a 15/2 mbit connection since fios first laid fiber in our area years ago, but after looking at the billing and whatnot it got the ball rolling and i took a look at the current plans, turns out there is a 15/5 mbit connection available for the SAME price as im currently paying, so i will deal with that as well. i will report back.

I know back when i had cable when they did speed upgrades they would simply just up the speed automatically. But i dunno bout fios.

I have to say I'm surprised.

Had FiOS internet and TV since they have been available in my area. (4th in my town). BUt the tiers were updated a long time ago with the middle standard being 20/5 (what I have now) at the same price point. I even opted for a bundle offer which gets me FiOS 20/5 for $38 and TV Extreme HD for $42 = $80. (Cable boxes and taxes extra.)

I would definitely give them a call and see what changes / options they can give you, since I have heard the tiers have changed yet again.

Do what Comcast customers do when the rates go up - call and threaten to cancel your service, after a few minutes on the phone you'll once again have the introductory rate...for a few months, then when they jack up the price in the future call up and threaten to cancel again. :)

ya a while back they had a lil different plans with the middle being 20/5 i called them but it was going to be more money, now the lowest package in my area is 15/5 for 49.99/month.


edit just got off the phone with them. the extra charges was a 5 dollar increase in the price of the net and a 3dollar prorate of the change in charges. nobiggy. i did upgrade to the 15/5 package for free like it should be. should take effect within the next coupla hours.

LOL, well you better hope they don't! Only complaint I have ever had about the FiOS Service has been the billing. One problem I had took over 11 months for them to fix, so be careful. ;) The service just for internet at that tier I think it $70/month normally.

Think thats bad, I pay $50 for up to 768K download speed and up to 256K Upload speed, ofcoarse they are the only non dial up ISP here in redneck, USA.

I got ripped by the comcast fix rate thing as well, my bill went from 76.00 to 189.00 the next. I paid that thinking I was behind, then the next bill was 189.00! I had 2 boxs and 16mb cable with them........I dont any more. I took both boxs and modem down there the next week.

i used to work for verizon in the fios department.... and for other various isp's in the past....

Your ISP is required by law to disclose to you the full costs of your service once the introductory period expires. If they do not, then contact your local PSC/PUC and let them know what happened to you, and they will take the fight up for you, as your ISP has to follow the law of the land.

I have been hit numerous times with that prorate bs. It is legit charges and all. Bit I still say it is bs.. (Never once have I ever heard of TWC making mention of prorating for mid-cycle changes. Any carrier non-contracted matter of fact..)

Not long ago. I started to drop my connection speed. I am not on it as much as I used to be. I use my phone more and more to surf. So I thought why not save 10 bucks a month on the bill.. I went from 20 speedboosted (16 actual) to the 8 meg package. They didn't reprovision my modem. I even called in on it.. to make sure my bill was right and I was paying for the mid tier called Standard..

Then I thought, heck I never use more than the lowest tier anyways.. Which is 768. It costs under 20 bucks a month. Again, they failed to reprovision the modem. I am on Lite, and pay for that. Yet, I get Turbo Speedboost speeds.

Right now I am paying $20 for internet that gets 20Mb/s. As much hassle over the years and the lying I put up with with Time Warner... If they let me go for a few months on wrong provisioning.. It is on them. I can only call and try to fix it so much.
If I decide the speed is not enough when they get around to doing it right. Then I may bump it back up. For now, I just let it slide they are not giving me what I pay for.

I have a long and sordid hate for TWC.. It is the only game for TV here, besides aerial. The DVR sucks and does the strangest stuff. the Box itself sucks major nards.. I think I can get AT&T DSL now.. But no uVerse. Only took 7 years for them to get a CO close enough. I was always 100 feet to far.

ya i have never seen something like that ... prorate my billing changes cus they upped prices halfway through the month. I dont even think we got notified of the up in price. So as long as we are getting charged the right price, the 54.99 for the 15/5 package which is what my online account says, im not going to go complain to them about the 26/20mbit net im getting.

and twc sucks... i have it for basic cable and it ****es me off... it got worse when they bought out adelphia.

10mbit and up is great, but the upload is what kills it at 1mbit. It sucks if you play WoW, porn torrent sharer, or play other online games where upload plays a key role in lag.

It doesn't keep me up at night. I find downloading from most websites at 800-1000kbps and uploading at 100+ works just fine for me.

The user base is too small, the population density too sparse, and the return on investment too small for them to do something like this. Areas in the US that are more densely populated than ours don't even have it. We're going to be stuck with like 15mbps, MAX, for atleast 10 years I'm pretty sure.

The GTA is as densely populated as most of the bigger US cities, the ROR is right though. 15mbs is like $75/month, thats ridiculous!

Called back last night and they didn't ask any questions they just said they upgraded it to 15/5.

Checked my speed last night and it was @ the speed I posted above. Not sure what happened but it's a lot faster than 15/5.
