Hello all,
Running a brand new DX58SO/i7-920/HD4890 setup and I've planned to finally dive into watercooling with this build. When I hit 75*C with the stock cooling/stock speeds, that put me over the edge :) I'll be trying to push the 920 to 3.9-4.0ghz and maybe a year down the line adding the 4890 to the loop, but for now it will be a single cpu loop. I'm running in an acrlyic case so size/appearance/location matters more than normal. Here's my setup so far:
CPU Block: Apogee GTZ/Koolance 350
Pump: Swiftech MCP355
Radiator: Swiftech MCR320
Reservoir: XSPC 5.25" Reservior/Primochill Typhoon III
My original idea was to have a 5.25" reservoir in the bay and radiator sitting directly on top on the acrlyic case (or externally mounted) for space/looks, and so far in my research, it doesn't look like this is going to hurt my performance, at all. The Typhoon is getting amazing reviews and the MCR320 seems to be a solid rad. The 355 pump will mount in the Primochill, and won't be a hassle to mount (or find a place to mount). The only thing I'm stuck on, mainly because of varying reviews, is the block. I originally thought the GTZ was one of the best performers but reviews vary greatly. This is where the Koolance 350 came into play, but its also a good $20-30 more expensive. So I guess I'm stuck on the block, even with 5+ block roundups in my bookmarks :(
:welcome: to the forums.
Are you sure you can mount the 355 in there? It looks like only the 655 will mount properly on that res.
The GTZ is an excellent block.

i think its made for the 655 not a 355
the xspc looks like just any other res the typhoon requires the 655

the typhoon is for the the MCP655, not MCP355
also looks like a good build.
if you go with the koolance CPU-350 it's restrictive so it's best in a cpu only loop.

Wow, can't believe I didn't catch that! :bang head
Well depending on what the total comes to, I'll go with the 655/Typhoon or 355/XSPC, but thank you guys for that catch. If the general consensus is the GTZ would be suitable for a 4.0ghz overclock then maybe I'll just drop the matter and get it, its got the easiest mounting of all as well so thats a positive.
Has anyone heard anything about the GTZ SE? From the description it sounds like the housing just got changed from delrin to chrome plating for looks?
GTZ i7 (First edition) (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9160/ex-blc-620/Swiftech_Apogee_GTZ_i7_CPU_Waterblock_-_Socket_LGA_1366.html?tl=g30c323s835)
GTZ i7 (Second Edition) (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9113/ex-blc-618/Swiftech_Apogee_GTZ_SE_Ultra_High_Finish_Universal _CPU_Waterblock_-_Nickel_Plated_LGA_1366_Ready.html?tl=g30c323s835)
I'm reading that right correct? One last question, is the 655 going to feed the GTZ any better in terms of actual processor temp difference?

the special edition changed the delrin top to a brass chrome plated top. its nice so you dont have to worry, as much, about stripping threads.
with the new typhoon i don't know how it compares to the standard 355/XSPC top, but either one will work great. it's all down to preference.

Don't expect miracle temps with a 920 on watercooling even with the GTZ. You can and probably will hit the 80's using Linx, especially if you get a low v-core high temp D0. At 4.3, I would see 80-81 with 1.3 something volts. That's with a 120.3, but I only had medium Yates as fans at the time These are hot chips, but they are designed to take it. Tha's why I settled with 4.0 @ 1.2375 for loads in the high 50's low 60's.

You're in the same boat as me. 4GHz(HT Enabled) at 1.264v. I hit ~80deg with LinX with the dedicated loop in my sig.
Interestingly enough, the TRUE I popped on there yesterday gives me almost the same temperatures under load.
I use lowspeed yates on my RAD however. That, and I reduced my Core and Uncore ever so slightly from 1.264-1.232v when I made the switch. But still.

Ht is supposed to add a butt load of heat to full load temps. So I don't think that is too bad, what are the temps w/o HT?

I second everyone on the GTZ. It's mounting system is the best. If you want the very best temps, then look at the Heatkiller. But we are talking about 2-3 C at most.
Your parts choice is good.
What tubing diameter, barbs/compressions, and fans you plan to buy. Ohh and liquid your gonna use.

I'm a folder, I've never had HT disabled so I'm afraid I don't know. I suppose I should give it a try when running some benches one of these days, but for now I don't know. Still, I've managed well over 27K in 3DM06 with HT Enabled.

If I can keep an i7 @ 4.0 under 65*C under load with the GTZ then I'll be a happy man. Haven't got to the fittings/hoses/coolant yet, thats what I'll be researching tonight. I really wanted compression fittings but they're so damned expensive!
