XBOX Questions

1. I heard it uses the Win2k kernel, true or false?

2. What file system does it use? And can its files be read by other computers on the network?

3. Is online gaming with it free? (other than broadband costs)?

it has it's own FS that I know of....

ppl of though about trying to image it to a larger faster drive...

as far as I know u can't read the drive on a regular computer...

Toms hardware and some other sites did a complete dissection of them..

Went to XBOX forums and peeps seem to be getting it working with their routers, but they cant seems to answer my question of wether the XBOX will work as a DHCP client. i assume it would, but do any of you know for sure?

Seriously, thats how you play online w/ an XBOX, you need a switch/hub/router so it can connect to the net, thats what ppl r doing, i just found out today.:cool:

1) Yup, it's a very minimalistic kernel sub-20KB if I remember correctly.

2) It's FAT16/FAT32 but is locked with a password. Two ways you can bypass that, either use the tools to extract your Xbox's password from it, or run your PC and Xbox live at the same time, pause the PC before it scans the hard drives, and wait until the Xbox gets to the dashboard (desktop), it is then unlocked, just swap IDE cables on over.

3) GameSpy offers tunneling software to play Halo and several other games online.
